nothing to worry about moose. glow plugs preheat the air in order to achieve the necessary temp for combustion. you most likely just have incomplete combustion in a few cylinders until the engine warms up. this would be indicated by the black smoke.

I think the mercedes v8 is a great idea, I'm a apprentice mechanic at a benz dealership. The older benz engines had casting technology (ie. silicon impregnated cylinders) that nobody else has figured out even today. What engine specifically are you looking at? some of the engines were desinged...
my truck tops out at 100kph, is this normal?
What options do i have to improve top speed. 120 would be nice. I am fairly handy, but don't have any experience with fabrication.
