Cause of Clunk when take foot off gas in 1st gear

Things look pretty dry. Is this really the sort of thing that could cause the "clunk" when releasing the accelerator from decent revs at the top of 1st gear? As I said it doesn't happen in any other gear so only when funder high torque I guess.

Cause of Clunk when take foot off gas in 1st gear

This'll be fun to see what's under there. Last time I looked it was so caked with spattered grease. Will report back though.

    FJ62 neutral start intermittent disconnect

Thought I'd come back to this. It turned out that it was the wires attached to the front of the starter. That end of the connection was loose. We fixed that and haven't had an issue since

Cause of Clunk when take foot off gas in 1st gear

This only happens when in 1st and taking my foot off the pedal quickly. It seems to be an uneven shift into neutral. It doesn't happen in 2, 3 or 4. I'd love some thoughts as to what I should look at. Something in the transmission? Is it bad or not much to worry about?

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

Thank you, this is brilliant. I will share it with my pal with the lift and see what he thinks of it. I would get no end of satisfaction from doing this.

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

I had a local guy have a look and he said it was the brakes that had frozen and dragged. He replaced what was needed including brake line hoses and she runs well now but we have only used her for short trips and very little since July when we got her back. I would like to. Get into the knuckles...

Helppppppp Exhaust manifold to pipe donut identification

Do you know the inner and outer diameters of the gasket? Also, any suggested torque to tighten the nut to?

Wire connectors under starter - 1989 FJ 62

We were able to get her to start by using a positive jumper cable connected to the battery and the other end clamped onto a long flathead screw driver. Be really careful to make sure the grounds don't ground on anything - we clamped both of them over the double cable sheath making sure the...

Wire connectors under starter - 1989 FJ 62

Thanks and from the look of it Seth S's suggestion that you posted such a clear picture of is the way to go. I see the black wire is a ground but where to the others go to exactly? Where does the black cable cover shown go/come from? Sorry to be dim but I'm very much an amateur if you couldn't...

Wire connectors under starter - 1989 FJ 62

This is great, but are you suggesting using a clip like that to make your own solenoid pig tail wire? Are you able to either show or explain how to connect the loose end of the pig tail into the main harness? The harness is wrapped with a mile of tape so I have no idea what is in there. Thanks

Wire connectors under starter - 1989 FJ 62

It looks to me as if my signal wire goes downwards to the connectors/harness underneath the engine. As you suggesting that harness on side the wiper motor is where it ends up?

Wire connectors under starter - 1989 FJ 62

I am actually having the very same problem with my '89 FJ62. Just replaced all the spark plug cables to the distributor cap at a mechanic's suggestion as it was misfiring. The old cable were shot and two of the contacts stayed attached to the plugs when I pulled the boot off. With the new cables...

    Brakes

I had someone have a look over my 1989 FJ62 and one of the things they said is this: The entire brake system needs to be rebuilt. The truck is unsafe to drive. All lines exhibit heavy rust on the exterior Brake lines rust from the inside out so this is very concerning Master Cylinder has...

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

Do I need to take he wheels off to see the square plug? I couldn't see it from underneath as there wasn't enough room to look on top - being a little dim here but it is one of those days/weeks

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

I still have not got to this and the temperature is now in the teens so I am not too inclined to be outside dealing with this. I did notice that the brake fluid is very low and that it almost feels as it did when the booster packed up several years ago. I need to top it up with the right fluid...

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

Coming back to all this now as I've only just got the truck back in my own garage. I will have a look at it and take some pics to see what I'm faced with; do a damage assessment. Thank you all for your great input.

Yup. It was one and then just as I got that put out, the other one caught fire.

    Felt knuckle seals caught fire

The hubs weren't locked. I haven't yet looked at the grease level nor the brakes to see if they were frozen, but will be able to do so next weekend. Someone who is rebuilding an '88 with a 2F engine is going to get it up on a lift and have a good look at everything. His first reaction was that...
