looks close enough for me and only you will notice it’s not perfect!
don’t forget the top of bib rubber spacers (4 total)....SOR has them. ( looked in earlier pics you didn’t have them....they set the proper hood height and protect your shiny new ( nice) paint.
Dec 15,2020 ( yes...three years later!)
Truck finally finished and on the road. Many start up glitches ( was a full body off resto) and finally solved the spongy brake issue.
BACKGROUND: completely new dual circuit brake system: AISIN mid 70’s, 7/8” MC a with 3psi check front and 11 psi rear...
Thx. Planning on driving for a tank of gas and then pulling plugs. Unable to measure mpg as speedo is having conniptions ( squealing like stuck pig) and is on the bench for a good talking to!
Ok thx for input.
Advancing timing from 7degree BTDC to 11-12 BTDC (with no further carb adjustments), seems to have solved the faltering, stuttering, backfiring at wide open throttle issue. Q? is that consistent with a lean fuel condition?
Open for other suggestions pls, as I don’t...
FIREFIGHTERJED:
Followed your advice and advanced ( NB rotate dizzy COUNTERCLOCKWISE to advance) timing from FSM recommended 7 degrees BTDC to approx 11-12 degrees. PROBLEM SOLVED ( well almost): pulls hard even when pedal to the metal / no stumbling/no backfires.
Thanks so much for that...
Will cross check engine SN with FSM and advise. In meantime engine SN : F276507
engine SN F276507 / SOR Engine SN a look up doesn’t go back further than 1969....so it’s a pre-1969 engine. FRAME SN FJ45-22080....similarly, SOR frame SN look up indicate Feb 1965. Actual registration says 1966.
WEBER 32/38 is rated at 240CFM ( rather a low volume carb).I’m not sure how that compares to the OEM AISIN carb that would have come with my 1966 FJ45 ( original carb is long gone....) which is what I think you are recommending? I did not go OEM carb and air cleaner as they would not allow...
Well now thats interesting and easy to try...thx! I have 7 degrees BTDC marked with paint marker on flywheel but now to find 11 degrees BTDC!!? And which way to rotate dizzy to get there?
Will report back.
Made my own bib spacer: motorcycle inner tube ,folded double ( originally had two of these spacers in place but the iterative approach to getting things lines up /3 days!/ made me take out one spacer. So in the end, the bib spacer is probably about 3/16” when compressed.
I just went through this ( albeit not same year or model (1966 FJ45, frame off resto/ paint etc) but my issue was the front fenders were too low).
After much to-ing and fro-ing, I levered up the body and reduced FRONT body mounts from 1/2” ( similar polyurethane body mount kit that you have...
Searched all Weber related posts but my issue not directly addressed.
Just finishing up and driving daily now a multi year frame off restoration : 1966 FJ45 ( BC truck for its whole history) / freshly rebuilt F engine/ tranny/transfer case/ all running gear/ ADDED: front GM Monte Carlo discs (...
Very cool thread and a very cool project: resurrecting your grampas FJ40...a good read. Excellent job in a very short 3 months.
Q?didn’t see the conclusion RE adding PTO gear to transfer case ( about to tackle on my 1966 FJ45 .....have the PTO winch but not the Tcase gearing)

Boaf32:
I read your thread completely RE serious brake issues but note that your last post was a year ago ( March 2016) and further note that there was no note of how you finally resolved spongy brake issue?
I am having similar "spongy brake" issues ( full body off on 1966 FJ45 BUT with...
Defcon 989:
I am very interested in hearing how your saga finally gets solved.
I am having an almost identical, frustrating experience: ( see new posted thread "BRAKE ISSUES -1966 FJ45 all new components -SPONGY BRAKES"......synopsis of my story below:
