I have to work this weekend, but I reckon it's worthwhile upgrading the harness and connectors just because the car is 25 years old. I'll measure the current drops soon and get back to you with that. I'll try to get some before and after (new harness) shots of the headlight performance in...
@Tools R Us , I was wondering about that myself. The main advantage of the Slee harness, or the Daniel Stern one which looks much the same, is that the length of the load-carrying wires to the headlights is minimised by using relays. And because you're not going through fine dashboard switches...
Anyone want some HIR bulbs? ... going cheap
A bit of reading up on LEDs suggests they are not ready for the headlight market.
Alright, headlight project has taken a turn - set up Daniel Stern's upgraded headlight circuit with relays, then get some higher wattage bulbs if I still can't see...
OK @jet200, that's a pretty compelling sell for LEDs. Do they also project a decent distance?
Now, can I get LEDs that will fit into a housing that takes H4 bulbs?
@IanB, I'll look into the one piece housing, but the H4 socket (AKA P43t) seems very common in Oz, almost the standard. I'm...
Thanks Guys
Any Australians out there that know about fitting these bulbs? Like george_tlc says, I can't use U.S. housing, but is there anything available locally that comes close? I don't think the one piece housing will help, if it still has the same bulb fitting, which I reckon it would...
IanB, so I need new housings? Any idea where they can be got?
You're right, I do have the quad light setup - high and low beam are separate bulbs in separate housings.
I've heard of people using HIR lights in Oz, so there must be some sort of way to make them fit ...
Peter
Hi All,
The lights in my '91 HDJ80 have always been terrible, despite trying higher wattages and so on.
So I bought some HIR bulbs (9012 for low, 9011 for high) with their electrical connectors.
Tried to fit them yesterday, they don't even get close to fitting in the OEM headlight shell...
Haven't tried negotiating yet, I was waiting for the inspection.
$19k does seem like a lot, but there don't seem to be many of these trucks around. People seem to be canny about what they're worth.
Saw one (didn't go to look at it) advertised for $34k. That IS too much.
Hi all,
I've been looking at a HDJR80 Cruiser that's done 301,000km, but has a reconditioned 1HD-FT factory turbo donk that has allegedly only done 180,000.
I got the RACV (local automobile association) to look at it, and the issues they said needed immediate attention were:
Blue smoke after...
Hi all,
I've just replaced the water outlet housing (the bit below the thermostat), and damaged one of the sensors putting it back together.
There are two sensors, both on the left side of the housing. The forward one has a large spade terminal, and my guess is it's the temperature gauge...
Hey Dan, nice work on the 70.
Can you tell me, I was in NZ recently and there seem to be a lot of SWB (70, 71) and MWB (73, 74) cruisers getting around, and some that look quite new. The newest ones you can get in Oz (that were built here, I think) are from the mid- to late-1980's.
I've...
Fibreglass - they told me the surround was $1000, and it was a full day's work to fit it. I think I might have got done, but the leaking was giving me the irrits, so if it's fixed I'm glad. And there were a few bits of metal work needed doing as well.
I've just done the same, although I got a Darwin panel beater to do it for me ... $2500 later ... oh well, at least it'll be dry for the next wet season
