Hello guys, I'm currently unpacking from moving shops, and trying to put a head together to get my Troopy going at the same time.
I don't have my cruiser here to double check, and during the move, my parts sorting system broke down.
Can someone please tell me which of these valve spring...
I am probably overthinking this, but I am reading the factory repair manual for the 2f, and it states that cam timing is set by matching the match mark on the cam gear (easy) to the match mark on the crank timing gear.
It goes on to state that to do this, set number 6 cylinder at "TDC...
I know they are pretty bad photo's, but i just pulled my timing case cover off to re-seal it from the leak, and noticed that there is a ring of resin like material between the centre of my cam gear, and the gear "ring".
I noticed this resin/plastic is cracked in places and there is a chunk...

please guys, help me figure out where i went with my 89 corolla 4af (carbied) daily.
long story short, head gasket was toast, coolant getting into piston 1. pulled the head, had it crack/pressure tested, skimmed, and got a gasket kit and new head bolts.
assembled as per gregories manual...
what are they used for?
most american tool websites have them featuring heavily, but in my time around auto shops (a few years) in oz, i've never met a mechanic that's owned a set, let alone used one.
please enlighten me :D
one of the holes in my 2f head where the exhaust manifold studs is bad, and i need to know what thread it is so i can get a tap to chase it.
rig is about 40 miles from me, hence the question.
Ok, just finished putting a running (in the donor vehicle) 2f in the troopy.
compression is good across all 6.
Distributer is fully engaged, and fully engaging the oil pump.
spark is strong to all 6 plugs, all 6 plugs fire. have eliminated vehicle wiring as the problem by hard wiring...
How do these hold up to hard wheeling? the only worry i have is the two stock places they bolt to (the bib end and the cowl end) are pretty thin. the middle fixing point is beef, but has anyone twisted/damaged the sheet metal sections they bolt to?
What's the go with the aftermarket gears out there?
looking at a few sites, "USA Standard Ring & Pinion" is the cheapest 4.88's i can find. can find yukon ones ~$40 dearer.
any brands to avoid? i'm looking for best bang for $. noise doesn't worry me unless they hold together (will be...
Been doing my homework on this. what are your preferred mounting ways?
Diff end - welded bracket to housing - pro's - stout as the welding work - cons - might warp the housing from the heat, as strong as the welding work (if the welder can't weld... i.e. me).
bracket that bolts to the Diff...
whats available in the way of stronger pinions for the cruiser rear diffs? i'm sick of snapping them.
last one i did was setup 2 years ago (and driven a couple of times since) by a decent diff guy, using a solid spacer...

anyone tried the trail gear chromo birfs? worth the $ or not? would love a 30 spline super set of longs, but the funds won't stretch that far. only running Q78's and a front locker, found these for half the price of longfield chromo CV's and thought they gotta be better than stock.
If i'm trying to weld two pieces of Square tubing together, am i better off (which is stronger) cutting the ends i'm joining at 45 degrees, and welding them together, or keep the flat ends, and weld them like that?
here's a paint diagram to explain what i mean. red is the weld bead (and i...
So the motor is in, Propaine hooked up, All wiring done, cooling system all together...
i just cant' get the thing to fire. not even a splutter.

Have also tried Aerostart
I am getting spark. i checked...
I'm relocating the battery to the back of my rig, i was wondering what thickness cable i should use to minimise resistance/ power loss due to the increased distance.
In particular i want to make sure my starter gets enough current.
