Hello guys, I'm currently unpacking from moving shops, and trying to put a head together to get my Troopy going at the same time.
I don't have my cruiser here to double check, and during the move, my parts sorting system broke down.
Can someone please tell me which of these valve spring...
Yes and no.
2f's do get thin on the ground at times. It all depends on the aims of the rig. stock for stock, yes the 2f will do, but have you ever tried to find hot up parts of them? even stock generic head gaskets are 3-4 times the price of good xflow head gaskets.
and why would you want...
I couldn't weld till much after i finished my conversion, and all up, the whole thing cost me under $900, which was about how much a good condition 2f was looking at costing me.
Of course, i did everything but weld myself, and took my time to collect parts, but it shows that these projects...
I have a 250 crossflow in my 1976 Fj40.
I used A Castlemaine rodshop kit.
Mounts were beefy, but the adaptor plate (that mates the gearbox bellhousing to the back of the crossflow) was poorly designed and bolt holes didn't line up. If i hadn't have got the kit for next to nothing, I would...
I am probably overthinking this, but I am reading the factory repair manual for the 2f, and it states that cam timing is set by matching the match mark on the cam gear (easy) to the match mark on the crank timing gear.
It goes on to state that to do this, set number 6 cylinder at "TDC...
I don't know the gearbox names, but we got plenty of 80 and 105 series out here with 1fz's and manual trans/part time transfer cases... probably easier just to source one of those?
Thanks, so re using this one is a bad idea i assume? Is that dampening ring all that holds the gear to the hub??? that'd be bad if it let go.
gear whine won't bother me as much as not driving the 45 would.
what are harmful HC's? hydrocarbons?
guess i get to pull the cam! gives me an excuse to...
I know they are pretty bad photo's, but i just pulled my timing case cover off to re-seal it from the leak, and noticed that there is a ring of resin like material between the centre of my cam gear, and the gear "ring".
I noticed this resin/plastic is cracked in places and there is a chunk...
Umm, Fj45 only comes in petrol.
Hj45 are the diesels, in one word. Get a petrol.
The diesels are more trouble than they are worth, especially now the youngest ones are pushing 30, and they were never very strong in the head anyway...
That to me is a perfect setup. a diff lock in the rear will see you through most trails that don't need full tube buggy's with a little patience and creativity. my 40 was most fun in that setup.
Box goes on the outside of the frame, with the pitman arm sitting roughly in line with where the relay box is now. pitman arm goes to a drag link to near the LHS knuckle on the tie rod. drill the bolt pattern through both sides of the frame, long high tensile bolt through each one with a crush...
running reversed springs, or 55 springs, or similar, approach angle is decent. especially if you run a cut down front bar, and are aware not to hit obstacles head on if required.
i agree with you, if building a boulder field crawler, it matters, but medium - heavy trail use? probably not as...
who said anything about a lift? standard height, well sorted springs/spring rates, with a slight wheelbase stretch, and some smart bumpstop work will clear 35's...
I killed 3, 2 with a standard (actually really underpowered) 2f, 33's and a rear locker (stock rear springs/wheelbase/driveshaft), and i'm not "abusive" as you describe. heck, i never saw over 3000rpm.
the 3rd was with a stock H Diesel... less torque than a 250cc 2 stroke, in a completely...
would seem i solved it. put the flowback cup of controversy thingo (in the "what are these thread) back in and bled the system, and it works properly. no dragging aparent, jacked the fronts up and they spin easily by hand, after a 20km round trip the hubs can be touched and they are not getting...
if i am thinking this through correctly, wouldn't that stud stop the pedal travelling to the floor, even with a bleed nipple cracked open? because my pedal physically can go to the floor during bleeding.
