I wish now that I'd looked at my clutch closer when I had the chance. I bought an engine with new H55 trans and split case. Supposed to be a CCOT rebuild and the guy was disappointed and went v8. Sold engine/trans/transfer and I wound up with it, runs great.
I split trans and mounted engine...
I put a 135 in my 1970 40. I had the same issue with fan too high for shroud. I drilled new holes on edges for mounting and may have trimmed the shroud on the top side.
It wasn't what I wanted but it wasnt to horrible either.
At the time I could not get a clear answer on if the fan shaft...
Not running any booster. I posted mostly for anyone considering doing a disc/drum setup with the man a fre kit that does not use a booster.
I am running a 2F and room would not allow unless I cut the firewall rib on my 70.
It works fine and I am used to the stiff pedal for town use. I am not...
I cant comment on the axle parts end of any kit. I put in a whole disc front axle from what I was told was a '79 cruiser.
The master cylinder and proportioning valve I can comment on. I bought the man a fre dual master kit for use without a booster. I changed all lines over to the 10mm...
Has this engine ever ran correctly for you? Not sure if your saying you changed something and now its goofed or if your saying it has always been like this since you had it.
Would try old cap and rotor and maybe different coil if you have these parts lying around. Having used a spark plug...
Mine also bounces a bunch. I kinda figured it was due to the napa voltage regulator I put in and may not have gotten one of the wires right. The wire colors matched and I tried it and its worked ever since. Battery stays up, starts everytime etc.
But the guage bounces.
skzig, the pic 4Cruisers linked to is correct, those are center pivot bowls. They came on Holley double pumper style carbs and lots of their 2 barrel carbs as well. Would not pay much for one, they are as common as pig tracks (or used to be in the pre fuel injection days).
This type bowl...
The 61031 had a big chamber that took a popup piston. The 61041 was smaller chamber and used a flat top piston. The popup may not work in the smaller chamber.
Someone should verify this. I'm pretty sure I'm right but this is 4 or 5 year old memory from when I was in the middle of an engine...
On the holley, swap out the side hung float bowl for a center pivot bowl. May give you the clearance you need. Millions of them around if you look. Shouldnt cost anything to try if you have any motorhead freinds.
As was mentioned earlier. Make sure you can find the pistons you need before doing any boring. I tried and could not find any of the older pop up style that the older open chamber head needed.
Beyond that, an engine machinist willing to bore without having the pistons to measure first is...
I had to read your post a few times. If your looking for a passenger floor pan to clear transfer case then you are probably into make your own territory. I'm assuming you are moving drive train around or using bigger than stock parts and now it all wont fit.
I have a 70 with the same floor...
My first FJ40 was a 70 and the brakes could be made to work good enough but it was a constant fight. I carried a brake spoon in the glovebox and would make adjustments wherever I stopped. Still, they were bad enough to help me into rear ending a truck which led to the end of my license for a...
I have used the borgeson u joints on a couple of vehicles now (including my 40 with a mini box ps conversion). In my 40 I liked that it eliminated the need for a lower steering column support bearing, the input bearing on the ps box, along with the u joint supports the steering shaft.
If you...
Rings are made of cast iron , this is because cast iron wears hard when oiled and hot. I may be wrong but I think if you have surface corrosion, you also have corrosion in the metal. The big issue is ring breakage. A broken ring will score a goove in the cylinder wall and have low...
I'm sure nitro gave break in instructions. The last set of Richmond gears I used came with a long list of break in instructions. Like 5 minutes no load on jack stands, 5 minutes around the neighborhood slow, then longer use all while stopping and checking the housing for heat.
I would drive...
Never set up a landcruiser diff. Have set up several 9" ford rears (probably the easiest). I agree with Rusty nail above that the pinion looks to deep in your photos. You know you are looking for a nice wide smear centered on the pressure side of the ring. Make sure pinion is torqued and...
I am not sure about the 2F but many engines (like most ford V8's) are externally balanced. This means the dampener and flywheel both have weight built in at a certain point. Many other engines (i think most small block chevy's) are Internally balanced, these have dampeners and flywheels with...
How heavy a pressure plate did you new tranny setup require. My guess is the pressure plate spring load flexed the crank at the bearing journal over and over.
That 2500 pound clutch clamping force all goes forward for the thrust bearing to handle when pushing in clutch pedal. Everything...
