Hello
I am considering converting my 1979 FJ 40 2f over to run on propane
However, here in CA I can only use approved parts for specified engines, the list of which does not include the toyota 2F
and sory ,
moving out of the state is not an option.
I was told once that the 2F is basically a GM...
I finally located a smog pump, now I have all the parts and can begin to reassemble this 2F.
I rented a shop since I don't have a garage, and will be moving the 40 over there by the end of August.
First prioity will be a complete rebuild of the front knuckles, and assembly of the motor
I can't...
If they are graphite vanes, which I am sure they are, you can make replacements from vanes out of welch or varian vacuum pumps. just measure the vanes and make sure that they ones you get are large enough to cut down.
Welch and Varian both sell parts for their pumps. I don't think Toyota sells...
I purchased an intake and exhaust manifold for my 79 as I am trying to get it smog certified.
The exhaust manifold had been welded at the bolt throughs and where the baffle plate was, this unit was severly cracked and had to be scrapped.
Welds do not expand as well as does cast iron when...
I have found that some surplus military aircraft units are built strong and are light weight
I have a few modifications to my 40 using them, my wife says my cruiser has an identity crisis and dosent know if its a 4X4 or and airplane :D

I used to rebuild carter carbs in my youth and on more than one occasion the pivot bar for the float would have a burr or a worn spot on it causing the bowl valve to stick open.
Just a thought

Use a breaker bar with a pipe extension about 4 feet
then hang 64 pounds of weight on the end of it
4 feet times 64 pounds equals 256 pound foot torque
Alan
Did you tighten those lugs yourself ?
or did you have it done at the tire shop ?
if the tire shop did it they may have over torqued the lugs
you could ask to see verification that the torque wrench they used was recently calibrated
if that cannot be demonstrated you may have a claim
Glad no one...
I am thinking it must be the voltage regulator, unless your belt is streaching after warmup
when the engine is cold, take a hair dryer and heat up the voltage regulator, but not too much, just enough to simulate the warm up condition you get then start it and measure the voltage
if it is...
Swaglok sells everything you will need from stainless steel tubing to the mounts for holding it to the inside of the frame.
Using high quality tubing should insure that you will not have to rework that part of your rig

I had a 1980 buick once that acted similar, just would not start.
The problem was a clogged fuel filter but this filter was inside the gas tank
I dont think Toyota put a filter inside the tank on the FJ40
but yours may be different if the PO did something like that
just a thought
