You guys have followed my cooling issues and helped me. Current state - Taurus wired wired to high. Temp stays 195 on surface streets with and without AC. Does pretty good. On the highway under constant load it runs 195 without AC and goes above 205 with AC. Not sure how high it would climb...
considering selling my 71 FJ40
Frame off restoration with powder coated frame
New SBC not even broken in
Rebuilt auto trans
New vintage air
New soft top
New custom front bumper
New battery, alternator, starter, carb, front and rear end, custom exhaust, aux fuel tank, tires
Taurus electric fan...
there has to be a better way to reach the upper two bolts of the door hinge on the drivers side.
I can barely touch them with my finger, much less get a wrench solidly around them. 71FJ40
have spent years restoring the FJ40. Everything is done. Everything is painted. It was done by a body shop and it’s “prettt good” not “pretty great”
The only thing left to paint are my full doors - I’m ditching the half doors.
Oh did i mention I’m out of money? Can’t send the doors to a shop...
you guys convinced me that step one for my cooling issue is a Taurus fan. Done. Will a 140A alternator be large enough. I think I’ve seen up to 250A.
I think the fan draws a max of 80A but no idea what rest of the truck pulls.
71 FJ40, SBC, vintage air AC, winch, nothing extra.
I’ve had the 40 for nine years, frame off restoration, including two drive trains, and hopefully I’m down to my last issue. I have a SBC and auto trans with an aluminum radiator. The motor sits forward, so very little room between pullies and radiator. I’m using an electric fan - the largest I...
Asking for opinions. I currently have an ‘71 40 with bucket seats. The truck has been restored frame off by me and my dad over the past 9 years.
I’m considering whether i keep the buckets which or actually pretty comfortable or go back to a bench.
It’s structly an opinion question - just...
1971 FJ40. i know most of you will say carpet in a cruiser is not a good idea.... however mine will be my DD and will only ever do very light off-road.
So given that, for those of you who HAVE carpeted your cruiser, which did you use and we’re you happy with the results?
I just completed an SBC swap. The front end sits probably 2” higher than the rear. What’s the best way to get just a couple inches in the back so that it sits level. Need cost effective options (meaning cheap)
I’m want to rebuild the doors on my 71 FJ40. I’ve removed the 4 bolts holding the window channels and the 2 bolts at the side of the door near bent window. I removed vent window completly.
But i still can’t get upper to slide out. Is there another hidden screw somewhere, like maybe under the...
On my 71, it's the FD vacuum knob on the dash that switches the truck from 2H to 4WD, correct? And then the big handle under the dash switches it between 4H and 4L??
Thanks
im completing an SBC 350 conversion with a chevy transmission and original LC transfer case.
I suspect I need to measure and get custom drive shafts. Anyone know about how much I need to budget?
Not looking for top end, just something reliable for a daily driver.
I'm putting 35s on my 71 FJ40. The rear currently sits lower than the front. Can I re-arch the rear springs to gain 2 inches?
I'm on a budget and can't pay $1000 for a full lift kit.
Any other ideas?
i want to put 35x12.5x15 on my truck. My current tires are 11.5. I don't know for sure if I have an 8.5 rim.... but just in case it's a 15x8 would 12.5 fit
5 years ago I purchased a USED 4spd FJ40 manual transmission that I planned to use to replace the 3spd in my 71.
I am selling the 4spd. Went with an automatic instead.
How can I tell which model it is so I can list it. I know nothing about it other than it was overhauled by previous owner...
Does anyone know a shop in Fort Worth who could do a swap of a 4 speed transmission for a 3 speed? Isn't there a gear (or something) that needs to be put in the transfercase to mount the two?
I have a 71 FJ40 but it has a 79 2F with a 3 speed. I have the 4 speed transmission but nothing else...
