    Cutting underneath fender, maybe?

I meant “Taurus FAN wired to high”

    Cutting underneath fender, maybe?

You guys have followed my cooling issues and helped me. Current state - Taurus wired wired to high. Temp stays 195 on surface streets with and without AC. Does pretty good. On the highway under constant load it runs 195 without AC and goes above 205 with AC. Not sure how high it would climb...

    Thermostat temp

I have a 160 thermostat now. Trying to decide if i go back to 180. You didn’t think 220 for an SBC was too hot?

    Thermostat temp

Fan solved 90% of issue. Surface streets and traffic it never gets over 190 (without AC) Highway sat most of the time at 195. Inches up to 200-205 after 15-20 miles. Need to try everything with AC on

    Thermostat temp

i read a 185 thermo will keep the truck cooler than 160 because it holds water in radiator longer. Counter intuitive, but maybe... Thoughts?

The last of my issues - COOLING

I don’t know for sure because i didn’t wire an indicator light. Last night i disconnected low completely. Will run on high all the time. Just need to test it on the highway this weekend.

The last of my issues - COOLING

Mmmm, don’t decide yet. I ran it for most of 90 minutes and for the most part sat at 195. But when i turned the air on it started inching up. Got to 205 and i turned the air off. It may have settled there; it may have gone higher. I’m going to ditch low speed fan and run high all the time...

The last of my issues - COOLING

So far so good. The fan and relays are working great. Not positive if the high ever came on but i suspect it did. Ran a solid 190 even in traffic and it’s hot today. Only got 195 with AC on. Cooled down when i stopped and got warmer as i drove which is just opposite of before. But never got...

The last of my issues - COOLING

No problem on the hijack. All cruiser talk is good talk. Hope you get a chance to get back to it. I have the circuit drawn and i know it will work, just haven’t wired it yet. Might do that tonight.

    Hardtop Question

Hard tops are very expensive to buy later. Probably $2500.

The last of my issues - COOLING

I temporarily wired the fan direct and tested both speeds. Turned the motor over and there are no interferences. Now I’m debating the circuit i drew to use both speeds, relays, and a thermal switch or if i just punt and wire it direct on high. Either way I’ll have it on the road this weekend...

The last of my issues - COOLING

I’ve installed the fan. Had to cut the mounting point (strips) off my OEM shroud so that the new one could be mounted. Everything is installed and i only have what looks like an 1/8” clearance with water pump. I hope it doesn’t touch when i crank it. I’ll wore it this week and run it this...

    Hinge bolts

They’re great! I hope you have better luck than i do removing the old ones. Pretty sure I’ve stripped the bolt and will just have to live with the OEM on one side. I was able to get the other side done

    Hinge bolts

It’s disconnected. I swapped for a high output alternator today so it’s disconnected.

    Hinge bolts

No, but a good thought. I removed the ignition switch. Helped a little. Years ago a guy was selling hinges on here that allowed you to remove doors with one but one the outside, and without tilting the windshield. I have one side installed and working on the other side.

    Hinge bolts

there has to be a better way to reach the upper two bolts of the door hinge on the drivers side. I can barely touch them with my finger, much less get a wrench solidly around them. 71FJ40

Painting - rattle can (need tips)

Would you recommend sanding to metal? Or just a good scuff from 220 up to 600, feathering any chips. Primer then wet send, color then wet sand, clear then rubbing compound. Two weeks then wax?

Painting - rattle can (need tips)

have spent years restoring the FJ40. Everything is done. Everything is painted. It was done by a body shop and it’s “prettt good” not “pretty great” The only thing left to paint are my full doors - I’m ditching the half doors. Oh did i mention I’m out of money? Can’t send the doors to a shop...
