    Spare tire swing arm capacity

What are folks thoughts on the effective load capacity of a the typical bumper mounted spare tire arm? I'm considering using Gamiviti's spate tire hitch receiver and a drop to mount a bike rack to my BIOR spare tire arm. This would be the swing arm, the spare tire (16" alu rim and 295/75r16...

    New winter shoes

Scored a set of 18" 200-series wheels and mounted a set of Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT LT's in a 275/70/18 size. Finally got a little snow around here, with genuinely slick and icy roads this morning. I am suitably impressed with the difference in ice and snow traction compared to the Toyo AT2's.

    Steering rack advice

Yes, another steering rack thread. By all indications, the rack itself is functioning fine, but the mount bushing has mucho play (145k miles on the truck). The shop can't get all the alignment specs just right because of it, and the on-road behavior is deteriorating to the point where I'm...

    Trekboxx tailgate cover installed

I installed a tailgate cover from @TrekboxX today. Ive got the tan color Line-X panel and the snap on pad. My initial impressions are very favorable. It is a well designed and manufactured product, and I think it is an excellent improvement over the factory carpeted panel. Install is a...

Rack mount bushing - how much play is too much?

Yet another steering rack bushing thread, but so be it. My question for the assembled wisdom of MUD is: How much play is reasonable between the rack and the frame? See the video I've linked to, below. This is on a 2005 LX470, 140,000 miles. Presumably the original rack and bushings...

RTH request: Steering rack fluke or impending doom?

Looking for some real time advice from Cruise Moab. Yesterday I discovered that the end of my ds steering boot had popped off and apparently puked out some fluid. The reservoir is full, there is NO active leaking, and the steering is fine with no odd behaviors. I reset the clamp and the end...

Lower ball joint squeak - mitigate/refurb/replace

Hey everyone. I've read through several threads on lower ball joint replacement, and it looks like I will be replacing at least one of mine in the near future. In the meantime I had some specific questions I'd appreciate feedback on: Lower ball joint, 140,000 miles on the rig. No play...

Help HAM newbie with Yaesu FT-60R

    ARL test options?

I was thinking about getting set up with a basic 2m radio before Cruise Moab, but I don't seem to have many testing options less than 2 hours away. I figured there would be more exams in a major metro area (Salt Lake City). Are there testing resources that I'm missing...

    Electrically short CB antenna

Hey folks. Wondering if anyone has some wisdom to share: I just finished installing a CB radio system in my LX470. I've got a Cobra 75WXST and a 3' Wilson FGT-3 fiberglass antenna mounted on the rear ds corner via a LabRak style mount bolted into the lift gate bumper, and connected via an...

Who is driving their Hundy at Cruise Moab this year? I'll be attending for the first time in several years--since I sold my 80. Currently registered to run PSM on Friday and Hell's on Saturday, but I'm hoping to be able to swap one of them for a Flat Iron Mesa. Haven't figured out where I'm...

Front fender clearance with 1" or greater wheel adapters?

Are/have you run 1" or greater spacers up front? If yes: 1. What size tire are/were you running? 2. Can you fully and completely stuff and turn and still clear your fenders? 3. Do you think a typical 295/75R16 tire will clear front fenders with 1" spacers. Per my previous post, it...

    Autocraft Slinky coils installed

Today I installed a pair of Autocraft Slinky 75mm Intermediate coils on my 2005 LX470, replacing the Old Man Emu 863 "heavy" coils that I have been running, but since installing Icon Stage 3 shocks are now unloaded and very loose at full droop. I'm also enthusiastic to try the Slinky coils for...

    Auto-Craft Slinky rear coils

Hey folks. FYI and to flag additional rear suspension options, check out the Auto-Craft Slinky coils. Several people in the 80 forum are running these, and they seem to get great reviews. There are definitely options that will work with our Hundy's, depending on load and lift height. The...

    Rear Slinky equivalent for OME863

Ah geeze, I haven't been on the 80 forum for a few years. Please excuse my intrusion from the Hundy forum, but sometimes I like to pretend that it's an 80. I've got a question for folks running the Slinky coils (specifically in the rear). How close would the Slinky 50mm intermediate coil...
