And positioned the 40 underneath the new hoist. I still have to build support arms to grab the roof under the doors and lower brackets to pull the top in the back, but getting closer to being able to easily remove the top.
And wrapped up the passenger side door with VB2. Kind of cool how it molds to the surface, we'll see how much it helps with noise. A learning process to get it installed, but not too difficult.
I ended up pressing a little too hard and a little too much heat with the heat gun on the bottom...
Cleaned up some of the rust holes that the body shop missed and installed the hood vent. The vent itself is now electronically actuated to save some space with the vintage air vents.
Spent most of today preparing a hoist to remove the top. Now that I've put in all the hard work to get it on the 40, it needs to come off the body so the body can make it back to the body shop for a couple repairs.
Prepared the frame and a motor to pull some cables on four corners. Will attach...
Thanks! I simultaneously feel close to a shake-down run and really far away. Right now it has to get back to the body shop to repair a couple small items, then I can really get down to getting the rest together. My hope is summer sometime, but I've been very wrong before. It takes what it takes...
And with the body on, the twin stick shifter setup doesn't line up, which means I need to shift it to align correctly. Apparently things got moved just enough during paint and rust repair to set everything off a little. Luckily advanced adapters sells individual parts for the kit, so I ordered...
And then focused on the rear lift gate and tailgate. The latches for the tailgate don't fit properly with everything moved around, so I'm going to need to rebuild those. But everything else is mostly in place.
And finished the headliner on the top and flipped it onto the truck. It's not perfect by any means - the headliner didn't want to lay flat in the back corners. But it isn't sagging, and it isn't just bare fiberglass.
I used the included oil pressure gauge included with the kit. I also have the J-1939 CAN module (BIM-01-2-J1939) to pull data off the computer, and a boost module BIM-03-2 with SEN-09-06. I’m hoping that the Murphy gauge provided with the engine is temporary, I have no plans on mounting it long...
And got the passenger door handle, lock, window glass, and new rubber and seals installed. I'm close to getting it to all align too, but not quite there yet. I wanted to get the weatherstripping installed first. I'm happy with the door mechanism. The window is still a little tight, not sure if...
Kind of hard to see - but the red boot in the center of the picture below the air intake is the block heater core, just to the right of the "Turbo Diesel".
It is on the driver’s side of the block in front of the intake if I recall correctly. There is a plug there, remove the plug to install the block heater. I did it when I had everything off as well, far easier.
I think they are separate part numbers. 5320949 should be the heater, 3946907 should be the cable. I’ve found sometimes finding Cummins parts through resellers can be easier than going direct too.
