FWIW:
i like it. i too think the placement is a little questionable, but as far as accessibilty goes, you can't beat it. have you ever seen that rubber stuff that you can dip the handle of hand tools into? i forget what it's called but you can pick it up at just about any hardware store...
very clean 1987 FJ60. 190k on odo. runs great, partially de smogged, no rust. tires in good shape. interior is clean, new dash cover, 1" seam split on drivers seat in usual spot. located in western colorado. wanting to sell soon. $6800 obo.
one other thing that should be mentioned. unless you plan on ordering new vents don't even touch the old ones. i too have an 87 and when i removed the dash cover i bumped the backside of one of the vents and it crumbled into about ten pieces. the plastic toyota used to make these things...
pretty easy- remove instrument panel, remove glove box door and felt liner. now you have access to the (i think four) bolts on the under side of the dash. remove the nuts. now the last two bolts are located on the sides of the dash with the defrost vents. two bolts holding the vents in...
i have purchased LEDs from super bright LEDs. i was very pleased with them. when buying LEDs look for a higher MCD number. the higher the number the brighter the LED. for this application i would recommend 7000 or higher. remember: LEDs will fry if hooked up to too much power! typical 5mm...
nice rig weasel. so when i order my dakar setup do i need to specify which size shackels i want? and just to make sure i understand this... if i want to end up with 4" lift i would order the 2.5 springs along with shackles that are 3" more than stock? right? 2.5+(1/2 x 3)= 4"
nice ride 3putt. not to de-rail this thread, but what is the lift on it?
p.s. i also think the 60 over the 80 is the better choice for where you want to go with it.
my .02:
i too recently purchased an 87 60. i bought it sight unseen (scary) and flew to omaha to pick it up. the interior was in fair shape, i have replaced the dash and instrument bezel and the front seats. it needs some work to get it re-smogged other than that engine has been rebuilt and...
wow. pimps got some rigs. all of these are good lookin trucks. maybe its the 33's but i was expecting the dakar to make it look a little more lifted. so if i understand it right, the springs lift it 2-3" and then you can use shackles to get another 1.5" out of it? am i right about this?
I've been daydreaming of what my rig ('87 fj60) will look like with the Dakar setup and 33"s. if anyone has some photos to help fuel my fantasy i'd appreciate it.
thanks in advance. :bounce:
