Any 3rd Gen Tacoma Owner's Compare to FJ80 Off-Road Capability

That's funny. I am contemplating selling my 3rd gen Tacoma for either an 80 or 100. Curious now that you've had them for a bit, what your thoughts were. I am merely looking to do some extended camping trips with the family. No hardcore rock crawling. I thought the Tacoma would be perfect...

    Hmm. Anyone know the history?

    new tacomas

I would also suggest sticking with 32's (265/75/16's), unless you're doing some serious rock crawling. In which case, you'd need a whole lot more than just 33's. You can get to a LOT of places with 32's.

BFG vs Michelin ltx ms on a 100

I like my KO2's. They ride well for an AT tire. I doubt you'll notice much difference, if at all. One thing that is a little bit of annoyance is, they're rock chuckers. Riding down gravel road, you can hear the rocks pinging off of the underside, wheel well, door, etc. Make sure you have...

For Sale 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser (ICON equipped) - $71000

He's been banned from several sites. 6speed, t4r, etc. Went by handle Benjamin Choi and CYK. Total moron with a pocket full of daddy's money.

Hopefully they last a while for you. Mine were toast in 2 years time. Went back to good ol' factory rubbers.

DIY: Replacing heater hose pipe T's *important*

Saw all these broken T's here earlier this week, so made it a point to do this today as I'm now around 160k. Noobie tip: soapy water on the clamps. Use your fingers to twist them up for easier removal. The clamps towards the firewall were tough to get to. After about 1/2 hour of contorting every...

Reccomend some crossbars for a 2 person RTT

I don't have an RTT, but my Yak rail grabbers with 60" bars seem pretty stout. Now, if I were to get an RTT that will be bouncing around offroad? I wouldn't risk it and at least get something like Rhino load bars http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/products_loadbars.htm Or Gamiviti rack...

    Gorilla Cargo Net

I thought about getting one of these a few months ago, as it seems really versatile. If there was a way to easily anchor these right behind the second row seats, I think I would buy one. Currently, there are 2 anchors on the floor, but nothing above. The handles in the cargo area may be too...

    What now? (kind of long)

Mike - If you bought that green 100 on Craigslist, they have 16" wheels. Looks like stock 275/70/16 all-season tires on there. 285/75/16 (33's) fit under the stock suspension, so that where I would start (or 265/75/16's work as well). If the BFG All-terrains did ok for you (from your truck...

    What now? (kind of long)

Just a quick question before you get mod crazy. Do you really need these mods? What type of trails will you be doing? There are plenty of dirt roads and trails in the 4 corners region that can be done in a stock LC (or a stock Subaru!). I'd explore your needs and then go from there. You can...

    Bone stock 2000 land cruiser

I think it would be best to first determine how much of a lift you will need--IF AT ALL. Join up with some of the local guys, go on a few runs and see what the limitations are. If you are going for a rock crawler, the link sdnative posted might be a good read. If more of an overlander, stock...

Ah, got it. Yeah, don't see them often. I would try car-part.com.

    Considering swapping 18s for 16s

That sucks. There are several sets of steel 18's available locally here for around $100. Strange that you haven't been able to find any. Have you tried Toyota? Go to the back shop and ask someone for take-offs. You may be able to get a good deal.

What aftermarket break pads did you buy?

On the front - OEM. Or I'd consider Hawk LTS. Rear - I went Duralast Gold. I figure that rear pads aren't as critical as fronts, so went with ones with lifetime warranty. When they wear out, I get new ones for free. Rotors - Either Brembo or OEM up front and Autozone Duralast rear.

Am I missing a "skid" plate?

Supposed to be a plastic "splash guard." Mine fell off a couple of years ago. I wouldn't bother replacing.
