    Valve Cover Gasket Question

Yep, I did the same. That will hold for a while.....and then.....not. Rock hard gaskets only seal so well for so long. Keep the Cruiser Faith. R.

    Valve Cover Gasket Question

Those gaskets get hard as a rock. Once you relent and actually replace them, you will realize that "snugging them up" is only a temporary solution. I did that too. I doesn't last forever. Just get on with it and replace the VC gaskets.

Who is still running their original radiator? Post up!

My finding after owning an 80 and now two 100 series... They seem to go about 175-200k miles. Maybe a bit more. I just plan on doing them at 180k, or every second TB-WP service. That will keep you out of trouble. It's easy then anyway; everything is apart. Oh and they all get brown...

    Resealing the Evaporator Cover

That 3M Strip Calk mentioned earlier in the thread works great. I did mine with it several years ago. No issues.

my living nightmare. valve cover gasket replacement turns into engine out job

What 2001LC says. I have had very poor luck with Easy Outs myself. Penetrating oil (yes Kroil ! or maybe PB Blaster ) and heat cycles. WD40 doesn't get it. Mapp gas / oxy rigs that are small from the hardware store will do it. We have removed fasteners from rusty exhaust fittings this...

DIY: Replacing heater hose pipe T's *important*

I will beat the drum yet again.... At every 90k TB/WP change just add factory T's and hoses to the list. You should be doing upper and lower rad hoses anyway. And do the oil cooler hose too. Do that, and never, ever an issue with Ts and hoses. Just as the Toyota gods intended. Keep the...

    Head gasket blown?

Mike NXP was definitely on the right track. It was just in with lots of other info and got lost. Here is his specific note "- How about power steering fluid, sometimes the little thing on the back of our pumps fail and power steering fluid pushes back into intake and burns up." It was...

    Head gasket blown?

While the guys that told you you needed a head gasket are a "reputable" local shop, they don't know these vehicles. This is a common Toyota/Lexus issue. If you are a Toyota/Lexus shop, you have seen it before and will nail it within minutes. This is a reason why I always recommend going to...

    Head gasket blown?

Check the power steering vacuum control valve at the p/s pump. That valve will fail and pull p/s fluid into the intake manifold and you will have white smoke out the exhaust. As me how I know. I thought the same as you and discovered this. PN 17630-16040 Also discussed here: Power...

all captains. all day. scheel mann edition.

Still haven't figured out how to defeat the seat occupancy sensor and the air bag. Resistor is in. Love the seat and would install more, but these blinking lights are a bummer. Any intel here ? I would buy an occupancy sensor but no certainty of what to buy and install.

    Scheel-Mann Seat Install

OH, and I happen to have a Scheel Mann seat in my 100 for the past year. Zero wear. It is a game changer (I'm 6'1"). The factory seats were aggravating my sciatica. This seat has been a huge improvement. I travel a lot and hate getting in rent cars as none have seats this good. Only...

    Scheel-Mann Seat Install

We can stop that wear to the outer bolster quickly. We have to change the way we get into the vehicle. It will save all your seats from wearing. Don't drag your rear over the bolster. When getting in, put your butt in the center of the seat first, then rotate your legs into the vehicle...

Tire recommendations for 99% on road driving

Michelin AT2's on both my trucks. Great on the highway and good traction when you leave the pavement or in the winter. They will last 80-90k easily. I am on the second set of them on each truck. Very happy.

Motor Mounts - How long should I expect them to last?

Did this on the TLC with 280k on it. Long overdue. Will probably do the LX later this year. Far less vibration. I would do these and do the front diff mounts too. Altogether a significant difference.

    Source for Ignition Coils

Go to densoautoparts.com Shows your part number and the authorized online dealers. I have found rockauto to have second quality items in the past. I would go to the dealers Denso mentions. Pricing is not that different; ~$57 each. Link here: Denso Coil Listing

Motor Mounts - How long should I expect them to last?

Just did this. One side at a time. I loosened the trans mount so it could all move more freely. Loosening the fan shroud is recommended, otherwise you max out there. Amazing the difference.
