Ok, trying to get a clear pic here...
Bozza, you mean there's another air-cooled hear exchager IN ADDITION to the heat exchanger in the bottom tank for HDJ80?
I added the largest aftermarket air-cooled tranny cooler i can find immmediately after getting my HDJ81V, and abandoned the bottom...
Mine pop a cap and got stucked on the left rail.
Couldn't find the damn cap so used a m14 bolt IIRC, for replacement. Drilled the bolt to centerize the shaft, greased and 3-4 turns back from 'tight' and voila!
Yeah, its a slightly different prob than op...
Just dropped & re greased u-joints on mine. Seem to need this every 5000 miles to prevent the 'clunk'. Driveline freeplay is another thing.
Good luck with the 80 :)
Looking at pic, the 80 seem to strike the tree at an angle, on the PS front fender, and stopped at the a-pillar. Not a car engineer, but i think this crash angle is proly not typically 'reinforced'. (a car is not designed like a tank, i supposed)
A lesser car would have wrapped itself around...
Looks like a good start to the new year!
Just a thought, for non-OE rims, it's good to check that the holes (for wheel studs) are not deformed/about to give way from over-tighten or wheeling.
Cheers
It was a toss up between the 80 & ifs 100 for me.
Sure, the 100 ride 'smoother' etc. But the feeling of being cocooned and somewhat detached from the driving experience didn't appeal to me.
80 is a classic/unique package. If cost of ownership = $ / uniqueness+utility+longevity, the cost of...
Bump
In this day of twitters, just having a real 4x4 that can last almost forever gives me a real buzz.
Between the solid axles (can you believe it!) , mechanical diesel pump (can you believe it!), cheaper to fuel that my wife's 2.0litre Honda (can you believe it!), exhaust note from 3 incher...
My one experience with starting was a loose connector for the starter, due to a broken connector lock-pin. Currently cable-tied.
All dash lights ok but no cranking was my condition.
The land rovers of old had tires mounted on the front bonnet. Doubt if workable for 80s, unless it had some recessed to improve visibility and reinforcements.
My 33' tires still at OEM rear-bottom... Which is pretty ok for when not expecting punctures. Swingouts only for expo then?
'Clunk' is a weakness? Heck, i always thought this and many issues mentioned here are built-in features of the 80
Ditto - coming from a landy disco2, 80 feels like it could last a few lifetimes.
I was a bit half hearted after fixing the 100 emblem ( had actually bought 80 emblem, planned to swap out the 100). But overall looked better to me after adding the silver frames around tail light for a more factory look.
Righto...had similar experience when I first got mine. It came with HT tires (kinda glad, knowing it was used on black top). Only Made it up all 3' of a muddy incline in low!
Well, old dad finally redeemed himself with the 10year olds after fitting AT
