Ah, fantastic. Thanks for the help! I'll try to figure out the best/safest solution, but at least i don't have to go get different seats from some other vehicle.
Though I did see someone who'd put a 2005 LC3 interior in his 80.... wow.
Anyways, thanks for the quick response. I saw in the...
Thanks for the help, gregnash. What you're saying is kinda in line with what I expected, just not what I hoped for. I can definitely see the advantage of having ML on the interior (especially with 2 big dogs), but I really do want to focus on sound deadening, so I've ruled it out.
The...
I checked out the FAQ but didn't see much, and the words 'seat' and 'replace' aren't exactly infrequent on the board, so...
I'm 6'7". The 80 I'm buying has manual seats (which I believe takes the Landtank extenders out of the equation), and I'm a bit worried. I'm not sure if the best answer...
Something that was raised earlier but never really addressed:
I'm now debating doing the entire car in this stuff (not just the outside). However, I really want sound deadening. So:
Does Monstaliner provide any sound insulation?
Can Monstaliner be used on top of an existing adhesive...
Thanks for the info, I've done some searching around, still going to have to do a bit more digging before I settle on a choice. Sorry for the hijack, and thanks for the info and pics, OP (and everyone else).
I'm very interested in this kind of thing; about to pick up my green (SIGH) 80. I'm planning on almost entirely bedlining the thing, but would prefer something hearty that wont feel like sandpaper (for everywhere above ... shin height?).
OP, would you suggest using this product without the...
In general, how much would you guys add to the price for preparing the engine, assuming your truck's been PMd, but that you've not gone completely mental (known henceforth as "pulling a Scottryana") on the engine restore?
That price is really tempting, but I'd be hazarding a guess at a total...
Finally made it to the end of this thread. What an odyssey.
All things considered, would you still suggest going with that aluminum fabricator in Houston? I've got family there, I could make a "trip home" and stumble upon a new rack.
Also, I'm about to start a (much milder) version of...
Wow, I had no idea the ratio was that low! It's far more important (for my personal plan) that the general condition is top-notch. I'll put on ARBs the day I realize I'll need them, but while this is a DD/Camping vehicle, that day is far off.
I think I am going to go the route of making it as...
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing re: lockers. I don't (yet) have the luxury of using this as an off-road toy, so I simply can't go too extreme.
I think if I buy this one, I may just spend the extra cash on REALLY getting to know the vehicle by doing a baseline++, meaning full sound-proofing...
So I found a straight, clean (cloth interior, woot!) 1994 with a '97 engine (fully documented) and only 120k miles. The guy doesn't really seem like he knows what he has ( no mention of the presence of lockers, etc).
Here's the thing: he only wants $4500! So I figure either the HG is gone...
Hey guys,
I'm currently living in the UK, but am moving back to the States (Austin, TX) in 3 weeks. I'm a longtime 80 fanatic, but finally have some money to start doing this right. Luckily, my wife's on board with all of it and just as excited as I am.
I've got 10k to spend on purchase...
It was run for 2 years since the rebuilds (tranny, t-case, etc), for one month a year. The woman had to put in new batteries each year (don't know why she didn't just charge them), but this year it wouldn't start.
Is there any way to check for timing issues without ripping things apart?
And...
It looks like the way to ensure that power is reaching the fuel pump is to short a couple pins in the diagnostic box to close the fuel pump circuit. Is this troubleshooting method viable for 1st gens?
Also, where might I be able to loosen a hose on the fuel rail to see if fuel is coming through...
Easiest way to check for a vacuum leak (won't catch all of them, but is a good starting point) is to listen for the release of pressure when you remove your gas cap. There should be a 'whooosh'. If there isn't, you definitely have a vacuum leak.
I'm going to pick up my 'new' 86 4runner this weekend. The engine's been rebuilt, but it's not starting (after sitting for a year). The battery has been charged, plugs and wires replaced, and it turns over but doesn't fire up.
I'd rather drive it home than tow it, so I'm building a checklist...
K cool. So, here's my list, for those playing along at home:
Owner has an impact wrench, so I was gonna get a 14mm socket for it (those bolts are RUSTY)
PB Blaster
14mm Wrench / Ratchet socket
24mm Wrench
Bottle of 90 weight gear oil
Tow dolly.
Shrine to the Toyota gods... I've finally found...
Yep, me and my fiance are gonna go down to the coast, make a weekend out of it. I'm just gonna consider it a rusty vessel for a like-new 22re and 5spd. Once it literally crumbles beneath me, I'll find a straight body with crap mechanicals, and do the swap.
Wow, thanks 2ndGen! I never woulda thought about that. I have the list of oils to use for a LandCruiser, but I'm not sure what to use on the 4runner. I'll look in the FAQ, I bet it's in there.
Looking at picking up an 86 4runner. 22re, 5spd, both rebuilt (including clutch and t-case) less than 15k ago. It doesn't start, after sitting for a year (heard them try to turn it over, it's a battery thing).
The problem is that it's on the coast, and has been consumed by the rust monster...
