    1999 Prerunner

I just purchased a Tacoma prerunner 99 with the 2.7 and 220K miles. It blew the head gasket. Upon inspection I realized it has an after market head made by exchange engine a chinese company, www.exengine.com. I am leery of after market heads made in China. Has anyone had installed a head from...

AutoZone fuel pump took a dump!!! alternatives?

You can use the pump from a Honda Accord. Also in my recent project (99 4runne) I dumped the Autozone pump for a Denso from Global automotive in Miami.

    codes p0420 and p0446 99 4runner

I thought I share this experience with the forum. I was given the chore of bringing a 99 4runner back to life. The engine lost compression and was hard to turn with a wrench. Trying to make it run someone messed it badly. Fuel tank and pump wiring was all messed up, so were the EFI main relay...

22re Timing chain swap, having problems starting the truck

Make sure you have adjusted your valves correctly. Intake .08 and exhaust .12. The distributor rotor should point to tower #1 for the ignition wire and both of its valves should be in a closed position. I usually adjust them until I find some resistance while pulling the feeler gauge.

    22RE carbon buildup, why?

I would also get a machinist opinion on the water passages along the exhaust side for piston #4 corrosion due to neglected coolant seem to be wearing it out. Do not forget to reinstall the ground at the back of the head to prevent electrolisis.

Anyone know if you can use different style igniters in diiferent trucks?

In my 85 I have an igniter from a later model 93 I think, swapped the whole assembly because I wanted to keep the newer wires and distributor.

    vacumn leak

sand the manifold with 400 sand paper held on a wooden block clean the mating surface in the head. I use silicone especially around the water ports. I kept the gasket for the EGR separate and install it last. I have used felpro which is cheap, but it is the sealant and the sanding that does the...

    4runner wont start

That if for ingition signal igniter/ignition coil circuit. You may want to check your fusible link at the battery if corroded they could fool the ECU. Also check the contidion of your wires to the distributor. The Ne and G terminals.

    igniter swap

if the igniter is bad you should get some reading from the check engine light pointing to that problem. A while back driving to TX my igniter started acting up about a 100 miles from EL Paso. Made it there and bought an after market at Checkers. It ran but it was not the same until I found the...

    Chasing codes on an 88 4Runner 3.0

I do not what to suggest. Just to make sure that nothing mechanically is mascarading the problem check engine compression and distributor rotor rotation. This will sound repetitive but make sure the truck is firing and getting gas. There is a chance that the fuel pump is unable to maintain...

    Chasing codes on an 88 4Runner 3.0

True they rarely fail but you never know. Besides you just bought the truck and who knows what the other owner did to it. For example some Hondas 91-93 are known to have burned resistors in their ECUs. If you can open it you may want to give it a physical inspection.

    Chasing codes on an 88 4Runner 3.0

Have you thought about borrowing an ECU from someone or buy a used one at a j-yard? Every time you do something you need to be systematic. That is for example when you hear the pump running you need to check if you have fire at the plugs. You could also try to try to spray starting fluid inside...

    80 series engine overheading

Humm this sounds to me that the engine is actually overheating. The funny things is since the radiator is huge you actually may not feel anything unusual. I have done my HG twice and both times I was doubtful at the beginning. If you have no experience with vehicles take it somewhere else. Get...

Failed CA smog by .17 on CO reading at cruise.

Interesting, in my own experience of owning close to 15 toyotas and at least 6 nissans I have replaced the cat only once in an 84 4runner. And emissions in Phoenix are not like in Texas where they only check your wipers and blinking light. I have had like 3 tough ones that I retested 3 times...

    '91 won't start 3fe

Here is something else I have experienced. WHen I had my problem very similar to yours in my 92/94 LC I had a spare ignitor and left it installed after I got the truck to run. Soon, I started getting the MIL to turn on and similar to your problem I was getting DTCs 25 & 26. So compred the serial...

    '82 front brakes locking up

How about the possibility that the pistons are not retrieving back once the pressure in the pedal is released. Keep in mind that most of the breaking work is done by the front brakes.

    '91 won't start 3fe

I wrote something on this question but apparently never made it. The ecu needs to see the Ne signal for engine RPMs and the G and G- signals to command the igniter to fire the coil. So see if you have the right resistence at the distributor plug. If you do then it means the pick up coils are...

Failed CA smog by .17 on CO reading at cruise.

Like I said given the fact that you are almost there leave the cat alone. Likely cleaning the carb will do it. BTW make sure the gas level stays at the dot mark in the window with the truck running. When you take the top off if you turn the top upside down the float should look horizontal if it...

    '91 won't start 3fe

have you actually tried to check for engine codes in the MIL (CE accorting to some)? For the ECU to fire the truck it needs a Ne and G signals. If it is not getting either one of those it will not fire. Ne is the RPM signal (CKPS) the G and G- is CMPS signal. Having said that in the ignition...
