    Carburetor tuning for dummies

I need help with getting my 1966 F135 tuned for drive ability. Here's where I'm at: Rebuilt engine. All rings and bearings are new, fresh hone, new valves and hardened seats. I put a Keyser carb rebuild kit in the Aisin SD-40. I replaced all ignition components (except the distributor...

Help me get the Heirloom to start!

Hi everybody. I'm finally trying to start the engine I assembled long ago for my rebuild (thread in signature). Currently, I know I have fuel delivery. I have aligned all the distributor pieces statically, but the timing light does not flash on the flywheel BB when cranking. The best ignition I...

    Help me ID a part

I think this is my voltage regulator. Gives about 1.2 ohm on one side and about 56 ohm on the other. The switch runs current through the same terminal, regardless. Is this the voltage regulator? Which side attaches to the alternator, assuming it is a VR? Thanks for the help. Part number is...

    Ignition coil mounting

9/1966 FJ40 with factory ignition set up. I have coil part number "885782 - universal heavy duty 12 volt coil oil filled". SOR diagrams indicate this part to be mounted with terminals facing down. The plug wire kit I bought seems to agree with the image in SOR's catalog, because the coil wire...

    Need advice from vacuum experts

My '66 F135 had a carb isolator that was cracked around the vacuum port. I removed the vacuum bung and repaired the part with resin. Do I need a vacuum port here, or can that vacuum line come off a tee adapter from the manifold vacuum bung?

    Early oil filter question

Hi all, Is the tube going through the oil filter housing on the early paper oil filter housing supposed to be fixed into the housing? Mine is free when I remove the top bolt. Just checking that I put it together correctly.

    M5x0.90 ammeter nuts

I'm looking to replace an ammeter nut on my mid-1966 FJ40. The ammeter is fine, but the nut was damaged by a loose connection and has crumbled into pieces. The early ammeters are M5x0.90 thread pitch from the original version of JIS fittings, which I have discovered that Honda and Toyota...

    Bad vacuum advance?

I usually lurk in the 40 section, but I'm trying to help a fellow cruiser head diagnose a poor running issue with his stock 1984 60. Symptoms: no power, rough running, not missing spark anywhere, backfiring through carburetor under acceleration and overrun. What we have ruled out: vacuum...

    Wiring the gauges on a 66 FJ40L

Hi all, I'm slowly picking through a rebuild (link to thread in my sig) and I need help reattaching wires to the gauges. I'm guessing that the gauges are sensitive it to the direction of current. If this is true, I would very much appreciate any help figuring out the sequence. Let's...

    Repainting a junk yard hood

Hi everybody. I have a few questions about repainting a hood for one of the household hoopties. A wind storm last year freed a big branch from one of our shade trees and left it's mark on my wife's 2002 Jetta. This is an aluminum hood with support structure underneath, so straightening the...

    Early Intake Manifold Collars

So, tinkering with my 1966 motor assembly, I am trying to figure out a solution for the missing intake manifold collars. Specifically, #9 and #10 in the picture attached. SOR.com indicates that the company does not offer this part any more. Other searches have been fruitless so far. Does...

    F135 crankshaft main bearing shims

I am preparing to rebuild a 1966 F135 motor. The Engine FSM states that shims should be installed with the main bearings. Searching on MUD indicates that not shimming the mains will cause engine seizure and possible crankshaft damage. In hopes to make sure the engine is assembled correctly...

    Wanted  66 FJ40 9mm brake parts?

Hi everybody! I'm currently rebuilding the brakes on a 66 FJ40. I need a particular part that was over-tightened at some point damaging the threads. It is a 3-way Tee-connector that looks like this: If you have done a braking system conversion on a pre-1969 and have a box/bucket of...

    Looking for 9mm barke parts.

Has anyone pulled the 9mm parts from a pre-67 rig and have them laying around? I need a 3-way tee fitting like in the pic. Thought I'd look local before building custom lines that are not correct to original specs. See image for details. I appreciate the help, everyone.

    Barn Rebuild: The family heirloom

Hello everyone. I am neck-deep in a rebuilding process, and decided to start a thread to document what I am doing. I promise to try to do my best with the updating as I get work done. A little back-story: Almost 40 years ago, my uncle bought a Toyota 4x4 to help get him to and from his...
