Just when you thought you knew how screwed up your cruiser was...73' budget resto

So I replaced the ballast resistor and it's back up and running like a champ again. But after reading up on Pertronix igniter and 3ohm coil, I'm pretty sure I don't even need a ballast resistor. Anyone have experience with pertronix who can confirm?

Just when you thought you knew how screwed up your cruiser was...73' budget resto

All, thanks for the troubleshooting help. After taking a closer look at the ballast resistor, the ceramic element (at least I think that's what it is) inside the wire winding is cracked. Ordered a new one and should have it by this weekend. SuperBuickGuy, thanks a lot for the detailed run...

I put in a new fuel filter when I drained the fuel system. I'm hoping its the ballast resistor. Would the issues I described be caused by a bad ballast resistor?

Just when you thought you knew how screwed up your cruiser was...73' budget resto

Looking for a little trouble shooting help. I've had the cruiser sitting for a while and went to start it up this weekend. It was cranking over really slowly and the started was making a clicking noise like it was engaging then disengaging, so I charged the battery and tried again. Still...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finally mocked up the rear tailgate I got last year. Looks like I didn't put my rear quarter patch panels in exactly square, should still fit pretty well. Not sure if I am going to just bolt it on or weld in some nutserts. Going to have to fab up some latch hooks as well as the ones I bought...

    74-78 FJ40 Drive Shaft Lengths

They do indeed have different flanges. I am swapping my pinion flanges and already have the correct (4 speed) x-fer flange. Anyone have DS lengths?

    74-78 FJ40 Drive Shaft Lengths

Did a couple of searches and couldn't find it anywhere. Anyone out there have the stock drive shaft lengths (front and rear) for a 74-78 FJ40 w/ a 4 speed? Getting ready to do a tranny/transfer conversion on my 73 and want to make sure I get the right ones.

Just when you thought you knew how screwed up your cruiser was...73' budget resto

Well, figured out what to do about the rear drive shaft not fitting, 4 speed tranny swap! Picked up everything I need including what I thought was a correct length 4 speed front drive shaft. Just measure the flanges, and...not so much. Looks like I need to track down a stock front drive...

Just when you thought you knew how screwed up your cruiser was...73' budget resto

After storing it for a year, shipping it cross country to the in laws house, then trailering it a few states further, I finally have it stashed some place where I can work on it again. Flipped the rear leaf springs today to get the drive train length somewhere close to stock. Unfortunately...
