Bulk rubber matting source for custom floorboard mats?

Tractor supply has heavy rubber matting in 2 different thicknesses. It is sold by the foot and is about 4 feet wide. I believe it is about 5 to 7 dollars a foot depending on what thickness. I would guess it is 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. looks like good stuff. Tripp

    rear brakes locked up

Had a similar problem with a 70 40 that had sat for many years. It had a bunch of rust on the drums that had basically fused the brake pads to the drums. On one side the friction pad had come loose from the pad housing and wedged itsef into the drum. Take the brake drums off and see what youve...

I had the same problem with my rear calipers. I had to grind the ridge off on the caliper around the banjo bolt to get the flex line pointed in the right direction. Tow dolly vs. Flat tow my 40

I have never flat towed a 40 but, I have pulled my lifted 40 on a tow dolly. I pulled it to GSMTR one year behind an RV. no problem. My dad decided to pull it home from GSMTR with his suburban. At about 50 mph the tow dolly and cruiser would start swaying back and forth violently. The only way...

    My 1972 FJ40 build...

I rented a water blaster to do my tub and frame. It is basically a sand injection nozzle attached to a pressure washer. it worked very well and keeps the dangerous silica dust down. You do have to deal with the quick flash rusting of the wet clean metal though. I wiped everything down with a...

    Steering Question

I am in the process of building a 40 on a 71 frame with a 75 body. I removed the column shift steering box and mounted the 75 steering box and column. After mounting, the steering tube was about an inch away from the firewall. I cut and added an inch of tubing to the steering tube and it works...

    1978 fj40 ignition removal?

Before trying to remove the assembly from the steering shaft clean the shaft really well. Polish the shaft with some fine grit paper or some steel wool. Then the bearing will slide off once it gets moving. A little oil would not hurt either. Tripp

Just wanted to say hi and thanks to mud and its members. After fooling around with cruisers for the last 17 years I now find myself building a 40 with, and for, my sixteen year old son. Over the past few months this site has been a great help with our build. We are in the process of building a...
