Supercharger/EMS/Transmission was a bit twitchy for what the FJ is used for. Time for some GM fun
Got to give some attention to the LQ4 here and there
1020 DOM 2" tubing for the engine and roll cage
4130 Plate for the lower links/trailing arms if needed...
Way overdue for an update. Good things to come in the next couple months though.
Checking clearances way back to make sure there wasn't any interference. Rear doesn't quite compress all the way due to the stiffness of the rear swaybar for going fast. Probably can turn it down a bit though...
Coilovers.
Don't follow you on the steering...37s limited your available steering due to getting into the frame and firewall on mine. 6" with less travel maybe not.
No shocks or springs were on it when cycled with 37s. Put it on to see how much travel we'd lose before bump. Quite a few inches and loss of steering as well.
600lb spring rate. I'd have to look up the valving in my notes as I don't have it off the top of my head. Not neccessarily useful...
Even with 37s, tires pointed straight ahead, and a 6" lift you'll still be making friends with the firewall before bump as Chris mentioned. Posted pictures of 37" Krawlers on a LT setup on my FJC in my build thread on here.
They definitely don't wear like rocks/KM2s, but they should make heck of an improvement offroad. I'd take the tradeoff any day
Wasn't the FJC supposed to be the comfortable daily anyways :p
Issue that causes a lot of tradeoffs with the FJC when it comes to the rear end is the frame. The OEM suspension layout on the FJC tends to be mounted quite low to find a balance between uptravel and downtravel. We have all seen how far our lower links are mounted below the bottom of the axle...
Looks like someone has found life outside of the little blue world recently? Welcome.
Better tech discussions tend to occur over hear imo, so its a perfect place to share the build. Which reminds me to post the latest update . Might even find it elsewhere on the interzwebz if you...
FJC - I like my IFS...its a nice cross between comfortable daily driver, performs well at speed, and alright in the rocks. Essentially I equate it to a hybrid between a jeep and a raptor. Won't be better than either at what they were designed for, but can do both quite well unlike those...
Rear runs spacers to come closer to matching the front track width. 1" or so wider than the front. Backspacing on the wheels is pretty high which keeps the track width in check, 4.5" or 4.75" don't recall off the top of my head.
Thanks Jerry. Need to meet up with you for an east coast...
Crack on the LCA mount as you can see below. Figured I'd mention it so other can keep an eye out as I don't know if anyone else has had a crack in that area.
Dave addressed the crack and added gussets
