    My ‘92 FJ80 intro thread.

I have a cluster I was going to put in my '92 until I found and fixed a couple of broken wires and mine worked fine.

    Gen 3 4Runner fan on fj80?

I wound up putting the original back in there after a few weeks. The 4Runner fan worked fine until I got a good torque on the power train. Then it would barely rub the shroud. Not enough to damage either, but very annoying. I tried loosening the bolts and repositioning the shroud with no luck...

    Hose ID on a 92

Doesn't look like it has ever had a clamp on it. Probably excess dropped when a hose was cut to length.

how do I get this broken bolt out?

Visegrips as tight as you can get them. Then tap the end of the bolt with a hammer as you try to turn it.

    I'm rebuilding my 3FE engine

I wonder what happened to cause so much wear in the cylinders? When I replaced the head gasket on my '92 with over 300,000 miles, I could still see the cross hatching from honing in the cylinder walls.

Should I buy this 80 series? Rough but cheap

CEL should come on with key. Go ahead and order a set of fusible links. Even if that is not the problem, it is good preventative maintenance. Check all the relays and fuses, both in the engine compartment and in the dash. As for replacing fuel pump, if necessary, there is no need to drop the...

Should I buy this 80 series? Rough but cheap

Other than the damage above the door, it appears to be in the same or better shape than my '92 was when I got it. I paid $1400 for mine and thought I did OK.

    Rear Main Seal?

I thought my rear main was leaking when I first got my '92. I installed a new valve cover gasket and it slowed way down, but it still leaked a little. A few months later I replaced the oil pan gasket and lifter cover gasket and the leak went away completely. Turns out the rear main wasn't...

Fl80 Brake pedal fade and overheating

How steep is this hill and how far to bottom? Do you gear down to let the engine help slow the vehicle or just leave it in drive? You really should check to see if the rear brakes are actually working. Does the parking brake work? The front brakes do the majority of braking and should lock...

Start it and let it warm up to operating temperature and then pull the drain plug with it warm. Let it drain while you change your plugs and fuel filter and everything else. Install plug and oil filter and fill with oil last.

Only one oil change and not many miles since it sat so long could cause the water in the oil. There is no way to get every little bit of oil out when you drain it. Some left in pan and pump and pick up tube and on top of head. I bet running it a couple hundred miles and then another oil and...

    Head Gasket shot. Committed

If humidity has been high, condensation in the crank case could explain a small amount of water in the oil. Since it sat so long, I would try changing the fuel filter and fuel pump strainer first. ETA: Sitting for a year with only about 5 gal of fuel, there is rust in the tank. You will have...
