    Later model H42 transmission in early FJ60

    If you remove the spacer on a later model H42, will this bolt up correctly to an early pre-1985 FJ60 which originally came with the 'shorter' H42?

    Free H42 4 speed transmission with approx 250k miles. Had quite a bit of gear and/or bearing whine but worked fine when used last. Easy to shift/no grinding. Longer style with the spacer. Pick up in Memphis, TN.

    Got a feeling its not an adjustment problem. Pedal feels normal and clutch slave and master are relatively new. But can't hurt to check.

    H55 wont go into fifth gear no warning

    Not to hijack, but my h55f has started to become very difficult to shift into first from neutral unless going to second gear and then first gear. Worse when warm. Any idea why? Was following this thread since the OP has a similar issue.

    Did you put a paper clip or a test wire to connect the TE1-E1 terminals in the computer diagnostic port in the engine bay before checking timing?

    I don't agree and don't think there is a mechanical explanation for that suggested causality. Additionally, this problem existed before I desmogged the engine.
