Advice on whether I should buy a Land Cruiser

I think that will be all over the board. I opted for high miles but big ticket items fixed (steering rack, ABS / Master $$$, timing belt service and extensive service history). Got a 280K miles 2 owner ride and has run great ever since...($6,500). My research and experience told me not to be...

Advice on whether I should buy a Land Cruiser

Another vote for the hundy...perhaps not as retro-chic..but will do everything well. I commuted and road tripped in my early 80 but the hundy is just all around more versatile..(air con, 80mph up mountains, towing etc) You will have money left over to save up for a 60/62 later :-)

    SELL AS-IS....OR FIX HER UP? ('84 FJ60)

There is likely more rust in that roof and gutter than meets the eye. I found that any fleck of rust above gutter means you can poke an awl right through. I would make sure they inspect and repair properly..before covering up. Those repairs would add real value/comfort for future owner for sure ..

    Fire resistant stuffing...roof?

thx...will try it but had hoped for cheeky/clever stuffing as will need it on the side where I cant pull the liner back... I might just try cutting a section of a welding blanket :-)

    Fire resistant stuffing...roof?

I learned the hard way last time and burned a hole in my headliner... About to tackle a few spots.. Does anybody stuff holes with a material that stops sparks from reaching the lining? :) Thx!!

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finally built up courage for the Allbright conversion for the 8274. Lots of pre-fitting and with the old 4pin barrel it is tiiight, but works..

    Decision Made With Rusty Roof

Welding and real repairs a can be lot easier without headliner in, so just something to be aware of down the line..I set fire to my headliner welding in a new roof patch :-)

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finally tackling rusty door bottom. Rookie-fabbed drain sections...what a pain but kinda fun.

Is it Worth Saving/ Should I buy it?

I would be curious about to what extent that frame is truly “compromised” other than just looking like sh. My 60 is also crusty underneath, so was my 40. Over time appears ok with cleaning, sweat equity, and proper rust protection, and I was always under impression that channels could be...

Wanted Junk FJ40 (~1971) CARB or the part

Sorry for confusion...the parts needed are now: - external accelerator pump spring (the one on the outside pump arm push rod - fuel inlet screen (the small copper/mesh screen inside inlet or a full junk carb :-) I figured out the other issue as correct diagram clarified no spring needed (my...

Wanted Junk FJ40 (~1971) CARB or the part

Spike Strip - that is awesome information, thank you!! I was worried about finding spring w/ correct tension etc. (Still interested in a junk carb, but going forward w/ this plan now!) That specimen is NOT Baby Yoda - it is my 10 year old Chihuahua, "Henning" :)

Wanted  Junk FJ40 (~1971) CARB or the part

Looking for a junk / rusty / cracked / incomplete FJ40 Carb (ca. 1971) for parts. OR - ideally and in particular looking for the TINY spring that sits on top of the TINY ball that sits in the smaller housing next to Accelerator Pump. Somehow it went missing in a rebuild :( Thx!
