Tried the pump the brake and starting engine trick. Pedal moved away as it should. If it was a bad brake line would I lose brake power throughout the whole system?
My '96 has lost a ton of stopping power, I've replaced the m/c, pads, fluid and bled the system about four times. The pedal is firm. It feels normal at the pedal, she just doesn't have any bite. Could the ABS somehow be involved? Rotors look good. No caliper leaks. Not losing fluid. Any thoughts?
I pull my 4250# boat all over with my 80, no problems. No bullit up hills but it will easily maintain 60 over the pass.
The real advantage to the 80 is it's ease of maintenence, you can touch the oil pan from under the hood. The obdII sensor will tell you if there is a problem and you can...
UPDATE
I put 365 miles on it this weekend with zero issues. I may go Toads route, but unless there is some unseen plumbing INSIDE the cyl. head water outlet, I can't see that hose doing anything.
Well, I plugged the hose and the radiator, so now the bypass is blocked, took it for a spin, twenty two miles and no issues, it went through a full heat cycle and I watched for anything unusual during cool down. There appear to be no issues.
The bypass runs from the little nipple on the...
I just broke the nipple on the radiator that connects to the radiator bypass hose on my '96. I need the rig tommorow, can I just plug it and run it?? I think it heats the throttle body. HELP!!!
I'm very interesred in getting myself a 4 door 70 series LC. An importer told me I need to look for a '86 or older, to get it into the US. What was available pre '87 in a 4 door? Also looking for a thread or website that shows the progresion of engines and body styles of the 70 series LC. Thanks
I would look for a solid axle 4R. I have a '84 4R as a DD/toy I bought it with 149,000 on the clock, it now has 220,000 and is still running great. The ultra reliable 22R is a very easy and cheap engine to work on, and the chassis is indestructable. I also have a '96 FZJ80 with F/R elockers...
I've run 8pounds in my33/10.5/15's on 8" rims. Going hard in the sand, powerslides, stuffing the front end while turning. No worries as long as you stay reasonable presure wise.
Late model 4runner is 3" shorter WB 2" shorter overall. I don't think you would notice the difference. I'd go with a Highlander if it's just a grocery getter, or a '90-'95 4Runner with a 22RE if you want to wheel it (103" WB). But if you want to hual your family into the back country for some...
I currently run 285/75/16's and if I could do it over I would go with 255/85/16. Narrow (lighter) tires accelerate and deccelerate better, less frontal area to push through the wind, and I love the look.
DO NOT! take an 80 on those trails, unless of course you don't care about body damage, I have to 3 point turns in my 103" WB 4R in there. I own an 80 and I love 80's, but that isn't the place for one.
I have 285/75 Revo's and they are very good, BUT if I could do it over I would get some 255/85's in a similar tread design. A little taller and narrower.
Don't forget wide tires effect on mileage and acceleration and braking, I recently went from 33/10.5./15 bfg's to 33/12.5/15 MTR's , the wide tires are slower to accelerate and harder to stop. I didn't think 15pds. would make much of a difference but they are night and day.
