I would say to go with a single 4.7 gears.
Less mods proven tough.
Check out the marlin forum and they will
be able to give you all of the pros and cons of each ;)
The V6 had a head gasket problem and that's it.
I have a 94 4-runner with 225k on the motor and
it still runs strong.
Sounds like the trucks you mentioned were a bit
high priced to me.
Also you will not need a lift to fit 31's even swamper 31's.
Good luck :)
I would say the mini truck axle out of an 84-85.
If you want a wider stance go Dana 60 up front
and a Dana 70 out back.
Check out www.marlin crawler.com
there are a ton of guys over there running full size axles
on toyotas ;)
I just bought my 92 fj80 in Feb. of this year.
It had 135k miles on it and I paid like 5800.oo.
So it sounds like a good deal to me.
The only other cruiser that I have owned was a 1987 fj60.
I liked my 60 but I like the 80 more.(more comforts)
The only problem I have had with mine so far is...
Check www.marlincrawler.com for springs.
You could also get some alcan custom springs.
Like what was said before stay away from Northwest
offroad (way stiff) and allpro (sagged way to early and settled way differant)
That's just my 2 cents.
Good luck and let us know what you buy ;)
If both trucks are single cabs then it should fit.
If you have a factory manual or can get a download
of the factory manuals then in the back of them it will
give all of the mesurments for the cabs and frames ;)
Good luck with your build up.
Truck looks SIC ;)
The toyota racing paint would look heela cool
I thought about doing that paint job on my 94 4-runner
however I am way to lazy so it will prolly just get a
solid military green paint job :D
As far as I know the fj80 springs are a direct replacement for
the coil springs in 4-runners.
However there are some problems with lifting coil sprung
4-runners that high with out changing other things.
You would have to make some custom upper control links
or you would rip it off the axle...
I am very sorry for your loss.
I had a boxer die about 2 years ago
and I still think about what a good dog she was.
I hope your loss gets easier for you and your family
after a little time goes by.
Best wishes.
