    FJ 55 Gear Down

Thanks for the advice. I have two each spare H42 transmissions and 4 spd TFC's that I need to evaluate the condition of and also the 3spd TFC in the '55 when I take it out. I have done the math on the low-low ratios. The H42 with the 4 spd TFC does not have much advantage from my stock setup...

    FJ 55 Gear Down

I have a stock 1969 FJ 55 with PTO winch, 3 spd on column, dash mounted TFC controls. The low range 1st gear on the 3 spd transmission is already to 'high' to suite me and I plan on changing the tires to 9.50x33's. For spare parts I have all of the running gear, engine, etc. from a '78 FJ 40...

    Distributor vacuum line quandry

Excuse me - the stock USA carbs do not have "ported Vacuum" per SOR Tech, only manifold vacuum, which will not work for the vacuum advance distributors.

    Distributor vacuum line quandry

I got pretty much the same advice from SOR Tech Service. According to SOR, I can run it like it is or, to get true vacuum advance, I would have to get a Toyota vacuum advance distributor (which I think by extra parts vehicle has) and a connect to a carburator with a "ported vacuum" which the...

    Distributor vacuum line quandry

I have a 1978 FJ40 with stock 2F engine. My distributor is a "For USA/semi-transistorized" per the diagrams in the Toyota and Haynes repair manuals. This distributor has "Vacuum Retarder" with a vacuum line nipple on each side of the retarder diaphram. When I bought the truck, all of the...

    Vapor lock

According to the electrical diagrams in the Haynes manual, there is a thermal sensor in the manifold and a relay/timer that activates the carb cooling fan. There is also an inline fuse shown on the electrical diagram. We have found the thermal sensor, but neither the Haynes manual or the...

    Holes in the floorboard

I just patched a rust thru in the drivers side floor board and used a piece of 18 ga. galvanized sheet metal. I have a sheet metal break that I was able to use to match the floor board stiffening corrugation pattern. After cutting out the rusty parts, I fit the piece to overlap about 1"...

    Vapor lock

Thanks for the help. It would not have occured to me that the fan only runs when the ignition is off. You probably saved us a lot of time trouble shooting the problem. Spencer

    Vapor lock

The fan is on my Cruiser, it's just not working. After looking through the S.O.R. catalog last night, it looks like there is a temperature sensor on the manifold somewhere below the mainifold and a relay - these work to turn on the fan. It makes sense that the fan only runs when the engine is...

    Vapor lock

I have a vapor lock problem also. Questions: There is a fan on the left fender (1978 FJ40 with all of the emission stuff removed) that "blows" on the carb. If this is working, will this help prevent vapor lock? Also, my exhaust pipe is reduced in size just below the exhause header. I am not...
