I've owned my Lj78 a little over 4 years now. The head finally gave in. So I've had a new head put in place. The truck is in great shape now.
My wife and I have had a baby boy and she'd like to get in to something modern so we will sell this LJ78.
Have I priced it right...
I bought an LJ78 a few years back from a mechanic in Alberta. I'm an elecrical technician and drove it for two years as a service vehicle. I've maintained it, put new shocks on it and did the odd modification. Pushed it hard up hills and it never let me down.
I was driving my LJ78 up to the...
Hey guys, looking for a set of RIM's and tires for Summer.
For a 1990 LJ78 Toyota Landcruiser Prado.
I would like to stay as close to stock sizes as possible.
Does anyone have some used rims and tires for sale?
I thought I would start looking now.
When the truck is cold from a complete stop or after I break hard to a stop, when I try to go again the engine revs up but the truck doesn't move (as if I'm in neutral).
I have to relax on the accelerator or the when the gear does kick in (after a second or two), the truck kicks forward too...
I recommend you install oil pan heater and a RAD hose heater.
I plug the heaters into a timer at night. The timer turns the heaters on 4 hours before I leave for work.
It's important that if you have 11VDC rated glow plugs installed, you manually plug them for atleast 15 seconds. (It takes...
Thanks John. I took another look at it with a mirror and you are correct, it is the nut and bolt thankfully. That should make things easier.
Right now I have a 2.5" exhaust piped to the original flex. During the turbo install, I want to put in a new piece of 2.5" flex. Does anyone know where I...
I took a picture of the welded nut on my exhaust downpipe. :
I will be replacing the CT 20 turbo in the 1990 LJ78 as soon as the new Turbo arrives.
The previous owner welded the nut to it's stud where the exhaust couples to the turbine outlet elbow. I suspect that the stud was cross...
One more thing.
What is the small round free spinning wheel near the top of rad that the back of the largest belt touches (2nd belt in from the front of the truck)? Mine only seems to spin 'sometimes'. It looks like a guide of some sort.
After driving around I get a bit a 'fresh rubber' smell...
Thanks flyfish. After posting I went back outside and found the 3rd hidden bolt tucked away. That hidden bolt sure made it easier :p
The nice thing about mechanical work is that if I push and stare long enough at things eventually something moves
The first two belts came off easily.
I just can't get the alternator to slide inward to get the two belts off. I loosened both nuts (tension and locking) but the alternator won't slide.
Tips appreciated. How much do I have to loosen the two nuts? What am I missing?
I have a blue top Optima , Deep Cycle, Dual Purpose battery (The lighter grey casing). I found it on sale for about $200.
The battery has performed very well considering the amount of heat in the engine compartment.
