From the Frame up this is a 1972 FJ40. The Tub, Top and Doors are straight and rust free (some very light surface rust). Custom Heavy Duty Bumpers (front and rear) Warn XD 9000 winch. Set of VDO gauges.
The drive train is GM. Most of the pieces are there (parts I know are missing are...
LoL, not sure at all. Just thought it might provide a good, workable solution and be easier than re-applying gelcoat. I am in the process of restoring a '72 and sometime in the not too distant future I'll have to deal w/the roof, so I just wanted to explore other options.

OK, if gelcoat is difficult to work with, what would the advantage be of re gelcoating, vs. say epoxy primer and an aviation grade urethane top coat (UV protection, and harder than gelcoat)?
I'm asking because, while it's a ways off, the top is on my list of thing to do...
Pictures to come. I received catalog from SOR, and sorry guys have been able to identify MANY parts. But since most of the rig is still in boxes, just give me some time.
*sigh*, while it is aesthetically unappealing, there is nothing inherently dangerous about having fuel lines and valve in the passenger compartment (filters are typically forward of the firewall though I have seen glass ones just after the fuel line leaves the tank). Fuel selector valves...
Putting an order together for SOR this morning (they seem to be VERY proud of their parts) and will request their catalog. Thanks for the tip, and when I get to 10 posts so my quota gos up, I'll post some pictures. Until then I can search this site and continue to clean and attempt to sort...
I use an ultrasonic cleaner w/a vinegar and water mixture to clean the corrosion off the parts of my SCUBA regulator when I rebuild it. But honestly the Dremal tool might be less of a hassle.
Yea, everyone is great. It's just I have boxes and boxes of parts, and I hate the idea of having to put up that many pictures and I'm not convinced that all of the parts are for my FJ.
But when my frustration level is sufficiently high I'll post. And thanks for the support.
I am working on my first LC and I bought someone else's project with most of the parts in boxes inside the vehicle. Rather than taking pictures and asking part by part is there a source (either online or in the form of a PDF) that I can use to look up parts using the numbers on the parts?
I'm...
Just got someone elses project FJ40. I'd like to buy a roll bar, maybe someone out there who has upgraded to a roll cage would like to recycle their old roll bar. If you live w/in 60 mile of Salem Oregon, that would be even better.
It's home. Had a bit of a time finding a trailer to rent that was wide enough. But got it home and will begin an inventory this week end to determine what is missing.
When I was in my early 20s I lusted after a friends FJ40, more recently I have been looking for a 55. Well today I bought someones unfinished project and after surveying it while it looks like a Toyota, if you look underneath, it looks a lot like a K5 Blazer. Anyway I'm here, excited and...
