State of Ca cruiser, no rust, previously daily driver until complete rebuild. Nearly every nut, bolt, and part has been removed, rebuilt or replaced with new parts. Body sand blasted, tub sides/panels replaced as needed. Tub off, frame sand blasted, epoxy primed, , underbody painted or...
It is getting a softer ride over time but is still too high so I would like to lower it sometime. If I leave it as is for now how do you adjust the shackle angles to make a softer ride?
Pinecone
It does not have a body lift that i am aware of. I'll try to find out what kit he used but I believe it was stock and not rubber because he said rubber would "squash" over time. I think they are polyurethane and about 1/4" thick between frame and tub mounts.
When I go to the local spring shop...
There is a spring shop in southern Oregon called Bergman's. They can build new ones or take out a leaf and re-arch the old ones. Has anybody done business with these guys? Do they do a good job, etc.....? I would like to support a local business but I also want to be satisfied with the results...
Sorry, it is sua........ I had it parked at my sons and got it mixed up.
I talked to Man-A Fre and the welded shackle reverse up front gives it 1 1/2". It is a 4" total lift with 2 1/2" springs in front and 4" springs in back. I'll probably give Alcan a call and get stock height springs up...
I just bought a fully restored '76 FJ40 with Chevy 350 and Toyota running gear. I love it but the Man-A-Fre SSS-40SRKE 4" SOA lift is really stiff and too tall for me. The rig has only been driven 200 miles on the street so I know it needs time to break in. I want to lower the vehicle to 2" over...
Heh, thanks for the info.
I would be using a tow bar behind my Duramax crew cab or motorhome. Duramax Crew Cab weighs 8000lbs: motorhome weighs 24,000lbs so the TLC should be stable. If I get one with the auto trans I may buy flatbed trailer to tow so I don't screw up TH350.
Thanks again :)
I am new to this so my PM back to may not have gone through.
I have a trailer to transport but at times I may want to flat tow behind my camper. Can this rig be flat towed? I am asking so I know how. Some transmissions do not like to be towed as they do not get enough lubrication, etc...
Heh, sounds like a good rig.
How do you tow this rig behind another vehicle? Transmission and transfer case in neutral? Will that do any damage to the drivetrain?
Thanks.........
Your rig looks nice and I am interested. Does it have a top? Please send more pics of tub,etc... and explain all that has been restored.
Thanks............
I live in Medford, OR and am interested in your rig. It looks good but I need more explanation on condition of mechanics such as engine compression, drivetrain, estimated HP, torque, and what general condition running gear is in. Does it run well at low and high altitude? I did Rubicon years ago...
I am looking for rebuilt / restored FJ40 Chevy V8, auto transmission, lockers, etc.... Tub off resto is fine. Rig will be used for hunting, sand dunes, around town, and maybe the Rubicon again. Preference is 1972 yellow in color but I'll consider others that are in great condition. This is my...
