    Spare Tire Spacer

I have 2 non-running, early 40 series projects currently taking up the majority of my 3 car garage. I've made it my new year's resolution to get them both put together by the end of the year. I'm getting close with one of them, but an issue I had with both is that the early slab style spare tire...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Welded up a spare tire spacer so I can finally fit 33's and still access the latch.

Wanted FJ40 transfer case rear cover for 4 speed

It's a 3 speed after all. I think the PTO was assembled incorrectly because the linkage was sticking straight up when I think it was supposed to stick down. I think pardion has the parts I need.

Wanted FJ40 transfer case rear cover for 4 speed

I'll have to look to see what tranny it is. I haven't driven it yet, but I assumed it was a 4 speed, since it is floor shift and has a 2F motor. It does have the early clutch, though (with the wrong clutch fork, hence why I need to pull the PTO+tranny). That said, my understanding is that the...

Wanted FJ40 transfer case rear cover for 4 speed

While you're at it, if you have any driveline bolts and nuts (the bigger ones I think), wiper blades for a '66, or sun visor frames I need those as well. Thanks for checking.

Wanted  FJ40 transfer case rear cover for 4 speed

I need the cone shaped cover with 6 holes that covers the (transmission?) shaft used to drive a Ramsey PTO. Transmission came with the PTO, but it's coming off since I don't have a winch and I don't want to cut the treanny hump for it. Thanks.

    ABS failure, advice needed

My dad has owned an '07 FJ Cruiser since new, and his ABS just went out. As he was driving a warning beep came on, accompanied by the BRAKE and ABS lights on the dash. He was able to pull over and stop. But when he restarted his truck he had very little brakes. He had it towed to the dealer and...

    30 day Fj40 build

Well, I need to go back and read up on this thread to see all that's been done on this truck so far, but after watching it sit unloved in VI's back 40 for a couple of years I made a deal with his brother for it. There's a new sheriff in town I guess. Sadly, my own cruiser still sits in my garage...

    floor jack recommendations

Lifting from the frame is going to be tough with any lifted 40. Most full size jacks only go to about 18 or 19 inches. The Hein Werner 2 ton gets to 20", and their 3.5 ton gets to 23" or so. It seems like a beast of a jack. Expensive, though. I recently found a used HW 2 ton in need of some TLC...

    I've got brakes!!

I just rebuilt all 8 of my wheel cylinders as well. I haven't driven it yet, or even adjusted any of the wheels, but I can say that many of my adjusters were stuck to a point that they needed some serious effort to break them loose.

    Welder Question

You might have 220V at the dryer...just sayin'. I've heard of people making extensions cords and using the dryer plug, but the amperage is off for what a 220V welder typically needs. Some welders work better on 110V than others. I have a Miller Passport that accepts 110V as well as 220V. It...

For Sale (DE) 9 MM Brake Hose

How long did you have them installed for? What length are they? I'm interested. These will fit an early '70 with stock hard lines and cylinders (9mm x 1mm male and 11mm x 1mm female I believe), right?

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

Thanks for your input and pictures. I think what I am going to do for now is just get new flex lines, and then possibly redo all the hard lines (switching to a dual circuit master) sometime in the future. I'm anxious to get my rig back on the road. Does anybody know of any sources for custom...

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

Looking back would you choose to redo all the hard lines again? It seems like you ended up using a bunch of adapters to pretty much replicate what you had originally. My hard lines are in good shape still, so I think I'd only redo them if I was changing something.

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

Did you get later year (still FJ40, but with 10mm fittings) soft lines from SOR? Why not just find some 3/8-24 soft lines instead, if so much was going to be non-stock? Where did you use all the 9mm adapters? I'm guessing you kept the stock T-fittings where possible, in addition to the wheel...

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

Is the corvette MC a bolt up? I couldn't find any detailed write-ups about the conversion. Seems inexpensive enough. Are 10mm flex lines easy to find in various lengths for cheap? At least enough to offset a much of the cost of the tube nuts and hard line? Getting new 9mm/11mm flex lines was...

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

I appreciate the input, but I think drums are here to stay. Meaning I'll probably avoid vacuum boost as well. I'm keeping the 3-on-the-tree, which to my knowledge has no easy solution for power steering, so I might as well work out my legs as well as my arms, right? And I like the idea of not...

early model brake lines, 2014 edition

I'm nearing the 3 year mark on my restomod, and it's time to get the brakes put back together. Mine is an early '70 (pre 7/70), so I have the 9mm/11mm hard-to-find soft lines and single circuit master cylinder. I just got done rebuilding all 8 wheel cylinders, as well as the master, and when I...

    Anti-theft ideas for FJ-40?

Don't they make hydraulic line locks where you can step hard on the brakes and lock the lines so the fluid can't return, effectively locking the brakes "on" permanently? Seems to me that would fool most criminals for a while and foil most tow truck attempts. Alternatively you could put it on...
