I won't drive my fj-40 at post-Carter interstate speeds. They weren't designed for it and aren't safe doing it. No "mods" are going to change that.
The accelerator pump is a part of the carb. It gives an extra shot of gas when the accelerator pedal is depressed. It is at one end of a long horizontal lever at the top of the carb, iirc.
That might be your problem. Maybe retarded timing too. Maybe a vacuum leak.

Megasquirt I v2.2 computer (with flyback circuit for low impedence injectors). Controls fuel only. Keep your distributor and spark system. Currently running a Ford 351--should work pretty well with a chebby 350 as is or reprogrammed on your laptop to run a 2F or whatever else you want to run it...
