Done with suspension now I need help with the brakes

Work on the Cruiser has been slow but I think I have the suspension pretty much where I want it. I like the where it ended up and I guess that is all that matters. I got a few other things done on it as well. The brakes on my Cruiser have never been good. When I went to the 37's as you can...

Quick and easy question about rear axle

Should I expect the axle shaft housings on my rear axle to be completely free of diff fluid or will some small amounts be present? My inner seal on my axles are towards the differential and so I would have to take the differential all apart to replace the seal and don't really want to do that...

Need some help from you SOA 60's out there

I did a SOA on my 62 and finished a couple of weeks ago. I did not use OEM springs and some are telling me that it is just right, others say that it is too high. My gut tells me it is probably a tad high but I have nothing to compare it to as I have never had a 60 series before. I am running 37...

    Knuckle pre load question

Rebuilding my knuckles on FJ62. I used the same shim thickness top as bottom. Pre load is 7 lbs. Two questions: 1. Is the pre load amount OK? I will be using 37 inch tires. 2. Can I assume that the knuckle is centered because I used the same thickness on both the top and the bottom or do I...

1988 FJ62 SOA build I want to make sure I am doing this right

Hello everyone, not new to Land Cruisers but new to 62's. I have adequate mechanical skills but still rather new to doing anything major. I got my 62 a few months back and I have decided that I would like to do a SOA so I can accommodate larger tires, and because I have nothing better to do this...

Fuel Sending unit or gauge not working!?

It has been a long time, good to be back. Just picked up a 1988 FJ62. It has an aftermarket tank and pump/sending unit. Also has aftermarket gauges. Something is not working. Wiring and such is not my specialty. Here is what I know. Gauge reads almost empty all the time. Gauge has power to it...

    Electrical issues and gauges

This is driving me crazy! The subject is a 1979 FJ55 5.3l vortec Yesterday the gauges on the left (fuel, engine temp, oil pressure and amp) quit working on me. Just nothing. Not knowing anything about this I searched for some time for a fuse, thinking that would do it. Couldn't find anything...

    Window gear source

Hey Guys, I know that this info is in here somewhere, and I have searched but I apologize for my ineptness when it comes to the search function. It seems like here in the not too distant past, there was a contact for someone who had the rear window gears for sale. Could someone please just...

    Pinion brakes

I just started another thread on some transfer case issues and thought I would start a different one on a different issue. I have never had pinion brakes before so these are brand new to me. 1. Do most rigs have pinion brakes on the rear or are front and rear ones common? The reason I...

    np203/205 Transfer case questions

I thought I had this figured out but now I am not so sure. I believe that I have a np203/205 split transfer case but I am not so sure now. The previous owner had the shifting pattern marked by the shifters but it was not correct. I thiink I have it right now but from what I have read, it...

Need some quick help on a bolt size

    Rear window removal

I am trying to remove my rear window assembly so that I can clean things up, check the gears etc.... and I am having a little problem with what I believe they call the stop plates that let me remove the roller guide from the window channel or holder. I can see them but I didn't want to force it...

Cracked bolt housing on transmission - help!

I didn't get many replies about this in my build thread and so I thought I would post it up separately. Below are pics of the carnage I created in my garage last night. First time in my life that I actually threw a tool across my garage. But it is what it is and I either give up or move...

    Need help, cross member/support question

Yesterday I installed my new AA adapter between my 700r4 and my Orion. Before this I was running the Downey adapter so I had fabricated a cross member and support that went under the transmission. The instructions (such as they were) that came with the AA adapter states that I should now support...
