Did you try simply letting some air in along the rod to see if it would re-inflate and look normal?
I'm no expert, but I did replace my LSPV last weekend... with help from folks on here on MUD. And yes I tore my boot like many others.
Yes! That worked... I had previously tried to rotate it but I was too chicken to apply adequate force. Didn't want to break the expensive part.
Thanks for the quick response. Now I just gotta bleed the system.

The LSPV on my ’96 USA-spec was dripping and I figured I’d install a replacement, not delete.
I got everything but the rod bolted back together only find that the blueish plastic forks that form a slot for the rod are at a different angle than the old one. See photo.
Do I have the wrong part...
Reporting back... Yup, 10A fuse labelled "Guage" blown and I just couldn't see it. Fuse replaced and gauges, dash lights, A/C, etc appear to function normally. Lesson learned.
That really had me worried, good thing I didn't start taking apart the dash.
Follow-up question: with that fuse...
OK, I'll definitely check the fuse with my multimeter and switch to a new one for good measure.
Overdrive switch does nothing and the overdrive light does not illuminate.
I'm looking over the electronic wiring diagrams this morning... trying to make sense of them .
Many MANY thanks for...
Thanks! ...But I've checked and there are no blown fuses.
There is 12V power to the fuse slots. So I assume the disconnect is deep under that dash between the fuse block and the gauges and A/C buttons.
I’m totally stumped on this, I'll try going through the wiring manual... not sure if I'll...
Aloha,
My US-spec 1996 FZJ80 daily driver suddenly lost power to:
* all gauges (except gas gauge)
* instrument lights (except airbag, door ajar, and battery discharge warning light)
* A/C control panel
* power windows, sunroof, power mirrors
Door locks, interior lights, external...
Thanks VERY much for the helpful guidance on what to look for when I get underneath my truck and take a look inside the clutch housing.
I just checked my notes: I replaced the clutch and TO bearings in 2001 at 100k mi. It's now 21 yrs later and I've got 180k on the odometer. So, maybe it's...
I’ve got a new noise in the clutch housing on my 3/79 US-spec FJ-40. There is a very light metal-on-metal sound that starts when the clutch is depressed just a little – just as the cylinder pushes out and slightly moves the clutch fork arm. The noise continues unchanged throughout the motion of...
E komo mai. I’ll follow your build. You’ve got a great start with that nice paint. I really like those low-profile Prinsu roof racks.
I’ve got a ’96, triple locked, same color. I bought it from a guy from sunny Ewa Beach and it was never garaged. On mine the paint and every plastic part inside...
Thanks for the responses.
I’ve got semi-synthetic gear oil that’s only a coupla years old and a t-case-to-transmission connector hose. I checked all fluid levels last weekend, including the rear diff. All fluids are topped up and fluids appear clear.
I might try to find a shop that will do the...
I’ve put over 130k miles on my 79 FJ40 over the last 15 yrs. It’s always had a bit of transmission (or transfer case?) whine and an annoying t-case shifter buzz/rattle.
I get a power-on whine in all gears, but most notably in 4th gear at moderate rpm up an incline. Foot off the gas… no whine...
Thanks for the response - I don't think I have the broken end, but I will look for the video. I was thinking about making a replacement if I could find some threaded rod the right pitch. If I fabricate something it will not be pretty.
Slightly unrelated - can anyone recommend a source for a replacement for the short rod labeled "LINK" that sits inside the housing? I'd be happy with a used one, and I'd buy and entire assembly if I had to. Mine mysteriously snapped partway up the threaded section. Thanks for any recommendations!
Not an 80. The boat is an ʻopelu style 3-man outrigger canoe. Beach photos from a few years ago when I shipped her to Kauaʻi and paddled to Kalalau Valley on the Na Pali coast,

Aloha:
I want to get rid of the following FJ/BJ4x parts:
Heater blower – I think this is off a ’76. Appears to work. Not sure if resistor works, it shows corrosion on a contact.
Brushguard – bolts to the tow-hook mounts (see photo). Home-made, decent quality.
Modified stock front bumper – this...
