I ran the Ranger setup for a while before swapping to an NV4500. Two things helped with the shifter location .... one was mounting the seat 2 inches farther back (I'm 6'3" so needed the room) and, as you mentioned, I heated and bent the shifter to a better angle.

Bissell Big Green Machine. Ours is about 5 years old now. Bought it for pet stains. Maybe it's the soap, I don't know, but it WAY out cleans any of the rental crap they have at big box stores.

Quicktip ... if the shoes are okay and all you wish to do is replace a slave cylinder, wedging the shoes apart will keep you from having to pull them off.
A mini-project but it has been on the to-do list for some time.
