    powder coating

You sure about that? I don't know about household ovens, but I run a propane-fired oven for my stuff. All the big ovens in industry are gas-fired too.

If you were closer to me, I'd hook you up, unless you want to pay shipping.

My first shot at bead blasting/Powder Coating...

It doesn't pay all the bills, but I am a coating engineer by trade and have been running a side business powdercoating for a few years. Sounds like you have things pretty well under control. My setup includes a Nordson Surecoat gun, 5 hp IR rotary screw compressor with refrigerated and...

My first shot at bead blasting/Powder Coating...

Sounds like you were pretty thorough. My first comment is make sure that the part itself is at cure temperature for the recommended time, not that you put the part in the oven for the recommended time. Reason being, that the powder may not cure fully on parts with a lot of mass. Bigger parts...

    Blast media?

Ditto, plus they'll give it a nice peened finish that aluminum oxide won't.

    Powder Coating

My opinion is that there are more than one issue with recoating a part, but cleanliness and preparation are the most important as you suggest. I suggest that if you are having it done, ask around and get some detailed quotes to make an informed decision. A good powdercoating job will last a...

    Powder Coating

You will have to get the whole thing re-coated, and it will probably cost you. The old powdercoating will have to be stripped first and us powdercoaters don't like taking off powder because it's a pain. It's only painted, it shouldn't cost that much because paint can be mediablasted.

    rotary screw compressors

Sorry to revive an old thread, but my .02 is those two options you posted are not that good of a deal if you look at the specs. I have an 5 hp IR rotary screw that puts out 28 cfm @ 125 psi and 65 dB with dryer and 80 gal tank. I paid $6800 including refrigrerated dryer, some other filters...

    Wanted FJ60 Manual

I've got one that's not in as good of shape(some rust and recovered seats). I'll post some pics tomorrow if you like. How's $150 plus shipping?

    refinishing steelies

Sorry to hear about that. Powdercoating is a lot like painting, because there are good shops, and there are bad shops (like everything else). I've been doing some powdercoating as a side business for about 8 months (with a history as a coating engineer), and have run into a lot of this stuff...

    refinishing steelies

If they're rusting that fast, then the coater didn't pre-treat the parts, and/or you didn't ask for it. A good powdercoater will always use some type of pre-treatment and should ask a bunch of questions regarding final use. The two best pretreaments for corrosion are zinc phosphate and iron...

Could you tell me where you ordered those from? I need a new drag link and also the bolts for it.

    Powdercoating ?

Pure lead melts at over 600 F, so powdercoating temperatire isn't a problem. Sorry about your customer's rig. It sounds like a bad powdercoater. Preparation and cleaning are just as important in good powdercoating as in painting. Always go the extra step, because powder is REALLY that much...

    Powdercoating ?

Powdercoat will stick to most anything, but there are limits. In order for the powder to have good adhesion, the surface needs to be clean and have some roughness for the powder to adhere to. Just let your powdercoater know what metals are involved and they should be able to give you a good...
