Different ways to slice a pie...but for my applications and peace of mind, running a wire back to battery negative terminal neutralizes (pun intended :p ) all the potential confusion, consternation & discord about all things grounding.
Hopefully, I didn't open up another 'can o'worms'
Have a bunch of different Andersen connectors from small to large current and never experienced arcing on the contacts; just wondered what the OP might be doing to cause the burn.
It depends on the application: 10% voltage drop for PV panels to MPPT controller might be a deal breaker if, for instance, a 5v threshold isn't maintained to allow the MPPT controller to flow current (minimum 5v differential between resting battery voltage and MPPT output). But, given the...
Good quality marine grade stranded electrical cable, such as Ancor (vinyl cover, tinned strands), is rated to 221ºF dry / 167ºF wet.

A little more information here on subject:
You don't necessarily need to adhere to 1-3% loss for wire length for DC-DC charger circuit; 10%, for instance, allows you to probably go with 4AWG (I didn't do the calc...but 4AWG would be in the general ballpark for feed from alternator to DC-DC based upon your 50'); easier and less $ than...
FWIW, installed a new Sterling BB1260 in the nose box of our little Escape 15A 4-years ago and it has worked perfectly. Looks like they offer 12v→24v, 24v→12v too...
Why Sterling? For all other LFP battery & solar I am all Victron but didn't want passive heat dissipation apart of their...
No mention of distance between battery and where you would be...but if within 20' or so, ala Bluetooth, a Victron Smart Battery Sense works for me/my set-up.

And then, for many of us, there's the 'walk-off' issue with portables/fold-ables. Obviously, theft is an application driven concern but...this is the #1 issue I have with deploying my Merlin 170w panel; we're not always right there with it 24/7.
Been to Moab lately? Crazy explosion of popularity...so much so the BLM just closed 307 miles of established & popular 4x4 trails in and around Moab. And more to come...
So, again, the internet and all the commerce surrounding "overlanding" hasn't been a friend of long time back-country...
^^^ The biggest problem: People in mass are bringing all their stuff into the back-country and then treating it as a dump when they leave. Campfires still smoldering, all kinds of paper/cardboard waste including camp furniture boxes (yep...couldn't believe that one but seen it more than...
So typical of western US BLM & USFS lands, especially since covid, we've seen 40' diesel pushers and 35-40' triple axle RV trailers so far removed from pavement we wondered if they were airlifted in instead of driven, even in the remote general Jarbidge area. Obviously, they didn't get in...
Glad I knew it...when. Travel Nevada has been promoting it lately...for the people that have to be told to do something rather than figure it out on their own.
Like Saline, for instance.
For $2k, for the 300w foldable, it better be the best. I've never used Sunpower semi-flexible cells but their mono-glass PV panels are among the best available. But to advertise "24.5% efficiency" leaves the solar blanket mfg linked above more than a little in the BS arena.
