Free to a good home FJ-60 bare frame

I bought it several years ago for $500.00. Came from a FJ-60 from Georgia that had a dash fire, so no wrecks. I sold the frame rotted 60 I was going to use it on, and now I don't need it, and have no place to store it. Some surface rust. No rot. Bare frame only. You must pick it up. I live...

    TPS code

What kind of mileage were on the rigs when they developed the problem? I'm getting paranoid and trying to decide if I should just go ahead and buy a aps and a tps and install them on my 98 as a preventative move. I'm pushing 150k on my rig with no apparent problems, but don't want the fun of...

Engine jumping out of the car when letting go of the gas pedal? Wtf?

Big heavy awd vehicle, combined with agressive stop and go driving is always going to equal two things...... the clunk and accelerated brake pad and rotor wear. Symptoms sound normal for loading and unloading of the drivetrain, but it wouldn't hurt to have the components inspected and lubed...

WTB: 99-01 UZJ in the Southeast...

Here's an update that may help guide some of you in pricing. The dealership I work at purchased 2000 uzj 100 for $16,000. the other day. Black with 72k on it. My cost to buy it was $16,500.00, but I'm too tapped out on other cruiser projects now. Interior needed serious...

    rust coverup

That's a 2nd, 3rd, and a 4th on rust proofing before covering. Some of the worst rust I see was made worse by what was put over it to hide it and it ends up holding more moisture. Por 15, Zero Rust (been testing this a lot lately and I like it), or something similar with proper prep...

    Help!!!

A friend indeed if you get that kind of offer on a good 75 head! :D Some machine shops will question milling .080 off that head, but it'll actually go up to .100 off and be fine. You basically end up with more of a "bomb proof" head that is less likely to crack. I stick with the .080 and...

    Help!!!

The 2f is not really prone to head gasket failure on a regular basis. Was the failure due to an overheated condition of the motor? If so, the head may very well be cracked. I've done 3 2f head replacements lately, all due to overheating, and cracked heads. Finding a pre 1980 casting head...

Where would you start at 245k undocumented miles?

Great advice and input! I appreciate the high mileage opinions and expertise... I agree that I too tend to get a little OCD on a new rig! I'm gonna take a middle road on this one.... coolant system/hose inspection and replacement, fluids, filters etc..... Then I'll poke and prod, look...

Where would you start at 245k undocumented miles?

93 with factory lockers, 245k, and I can't document any prior work done to it. Runs good. Slight metalic sound up front at idle, paranoia makes me think timing chain slider, but I don't have much experience with the fzj 4.5 motor, so not sure. No noticable leaks, good oil pressure, r-134a...

    Itermittent fuel pressure/flow

How many miles on your rig? I've had the experience of a fuel pump on its last leg giving a few last gasps, and give intermitment delivery, drive a ways, little sucker heats up and wont work, and drives you to look at everything but the pump, until it dies completely. I almost consider the...

few questions for new fj60 owner

Check out the smog diagram from Jim Chenowith in the technical links. Desmogging alone will not improve gas mileage, but it will make for cooler underhood temps (sort a), and a more efficient engine, less prone to vacum leaks, and easier to diagnose and work on later. I see a lot of...

    Now it's too rich....

Where I live, emissions, doors, tires etc... are optional, so I'm no expert, but.... Are you sure it's the carb that's causing the vehicle to fail the test, and not some other component. That being said, there are (from what I remember reading), some guys on here with a wealth of knowledge of...

The Great Cover UP. GT Seat Covers.

If you bought the waterproof nylon covers from GT, it is the exact same pvc backed nylon fabric that specter uses on their tuff duck covers. Main differece is GT puts a layer of foam on theirs. Shouldn't be a problem with water going through..... it cant. Ted Frazier at GT is good guy to work...

Not sure if you guys are aware of this...

Back in 95, while working in Glacier Park in Montana I had to drive a Ford Taurus rental while my rig was in the shop for a week. I kept the rental keys seperate from my other main key ring. One morning around 2:00 a.m., coming back into the park from a night of beer drinking at the Great...

    1998 Lockers

That 80 vs 100 thread issue is like a zen koan...... there is no right answer. If given the choice between the blonde and the brunette, why not take both?

    Locker Doctor anyone?

A quick update to end this one... Mission Accomplished! I tested the suspect front diff lock switch and it was not working. I removed it, hit it with a 20lb sledge a few times, crossthreaded it back in the t case and all is well! Seriously though.... I removed the front diff lock switch...

    Trailer Hitch Question

Ditto on the factory hitch if you can find one with the factory harness. I bought one off ebay a few months ago for $100 bucks, brand new and all there. The guy had several... They had gotten rained on briefly and the boxes got slightly crinkled, and the dealer wouldn't sell em. Great deal! I...

Can you notice the Secondary open on your 60?

3000 miles! What a great trip in a cruiser..... knowing at any time you can leave the road and take the bumpy, muddy, hilly, road less traveled. I'm sure you know.... but do a good coolant hose check up/replacement before you depart. Not just the radiator hoses, but also the hoses that carry...

    Locker Doctor anyone?

Mangler... Thanks for that thread. That is what I was looking for. Guess I shouldn't have used "damn lockers" in my key words search. I also read Kumars post in the Slee tech section today, and feel pretty confident I'll diagnose it pretty quickly now. I have a day off and will do...

Can you notice the Secondary open on your 60?

I agree with what most of the previous posters have said. The most noticable "feel" on the secondary for me is almost always on a freshly tuned engine, milled head, and smogged. Less noticable on rigs with other pieces of the puzzle that may need attention... ie clean air filter, working pcv...
