What should I expect of the 3FE, and do the birfs just wear out because of constant rotation? What kind of mileage is possible with a vehicle like this that has been mechanically maintained?
I found a 91 for sale today for only $3,500. It has 184,000 miles, but looks to be in decent shape. Somehow there's no rust, in Michigan! It has been owned by the same guy since 40K and he said he's kept regular maintenance on it. The speedo started squealing a little the other day while someone...
HogDriver?
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but are you an A-10 guy? I was a U-2 crew chief and knew some A-10 guys from germany. They didn't like the dragon.
Ask luke
Call Luke at 4x4labs. About a year ago he swapped an fj-60 front axle under a taco. Everything worked great. If you're competent enough to consider any axle swap, I think you could probably handle welding perches to the top of the housing. The third member is swappable with any land...
My 69' is due for a fresh wiring harness. Is painless the only place that makes one to work? If anyone knows of any better or cheaper, please email me at
campm@student.gvsu.edu. Thanks.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, the winter semester started. I didn't have to pull any steering column bolts, just the outer weird shaped clip on the forward side of the column, at the end of the column. The bearing shouldn't have to come off the u-joint. A little cohersion should slide the joint...
I'm actually building a 9-inch center section. I found driveshaft flanges came from the factory on Lincoln Versales rears. Remachine the center and bolt pattern for toy stuff.
I'm trying to design a reliable drivetrain for extended excursions. I want a stronger than spicer or saginaw cv at the tcase and decent slip yokes. I'll be doing a SOA w/out a SR. I know the mini/4rnnr drive shafts are decent, but if I remember correctly, the fj60 u-joints and cvs make them look...
Does anyone have any specs that could be listed for cruiser driveshaft u-joints and cv joints of all vintages? Also, what about flanges for pigs and t'cases including spline counts?
Also, the firewall u-joint isn't hard mounted to the column shaft. At the end of the column behind the joint is a wire clip which holds a bearing. Pull the clip and the whole joint will come out of the column on a double-D shaft.
U-joint
I used the int. shaft from an 82 mini truck on my 40. The joints in it look the same as those of a 60. If so, they're rear driveshaft joints from late 70's to early 80's Toyota Starlets and Corollas.
I'm running 33x12.5s on 8in wheels. I don't have a rag joint. Just 82 mini intermediate shaft and u-joints(new). I'll check the kingpin bearings and go from there. Thanks again.
I recently moved back to Michigan with my 40 and am experiencing horrible steering pull or wandering. There are severe troughs in the pavement here from all the heavy trucks and frost heave. My only chassis mods are Scout II steering box and my rear springs flipped length wise. There is no lift...
