Vacuum Surge Tank mug shot? 77 CA FJ40

I think that Corcel, below, nailed it. It's a separate tank on the driver's side fender.

Vacuum Surge Tank mug shot? 77 CA FJ40

I'm slowly restoring a '77 FJ40 CA spec back to original. As I work on the vacuum lines, I see not one, but two vacuum surge tanks shown on the parts diagram. I've located the square metal tank with one port, shown as #25719 "Tank" on the lower left of the diagram. What I cannot seem to...

Help needed with attaching 2F Manifold (CA Spec)

2 questions: 1) My '77 CA Spec manifold appears all original, the "horns" are bolted onto the manifold as shown in the microfiche diagram, yet the horns have no holes drilled for the end bolts. The head has two 10mmx1.25 holes and the gasket has holes. The microfiche diagram shows bolts...

What goes here? Clutch slave clip

This is under the starter, so no battery cable nor starter cable near here. Perhaps its left over from earlier builds?

What goes here? Clutch slave clip

Not on a '77. No cowl drain

What goes here? Clutch slave clip

On my '77 there's a wonderful clip on the end of the clutch slave cylinder bracket. What goes inside the clip?

OEM or PO invention (rubber transmission pads)

Thanks Boatman. I think we will leave those off on this build.

OEM or PO invention (rubber transmission pads)

After a decade, I'm putting together a '77 FJ40 and came across these two rubber shims. I've carefully labeled the longer one "transfer case) and they both have a hole appropriate for a shift lever. I cannot find any mention of these in the microfiche catalogue I have. Have you seen them...

    Driveshaft will not take grease

Helpful, thank you so much. I'll pull the driveshaft (after marking its position) and then pull it apart and clean out the old grease. I appreciate your suggestion abot marking the two halves.

    Driveshaft will not take grease

I was greasing the undercarriage of the 40 today for the first time in XX? years. All of the grease points extruded old grease except for the front and rear driveshafts. I assume that I should be seeing some old grease come out of the area shown by the yellow arrow? When I put the grease...

Will bad things happen if I remove this? (Starter relay?)

I'm fairly convinced, from looking at the other wiring, that most likely the Cruiser was located in the Soviet Union; alternatively, there was a deep seated fear of cosmic rays interfering with the electrics.

Will bad things happen if I remove this? (Starter relay?)

Hi Mudders, My 06/77 Fj40 battery cables are nasty and I've ordered new ones from Fourrunner. As I look around the engine bay I see this starter solenoid relay. I'm not finding it in the OEM schematics, so I assume it was a PO add. Isn't its function incorporated in the starter? Or is my...

Intake Manifold, what should this be connected to?

Is this intake elbow original to the build? On my desmogged, Holly equipped 1977, this elbow, just below the carb, leads to a hose, which leads to... nothing (it's capped off) I thought it might have once have gone to the charcoal canister through the VTV valve, but that appears to be a port...
