I had the Crane radio attenna installed last week and can report that he AM reception is significantly improved. (FM reception stays the same.) The new antenna is balanced by a Firestik CB antena in the same spot on the driver's side. Looks brawny, which is to say looks good, IMHO. Have freed-up...
Scamper:
If you don't want to look "dorky," and you do want to look really "cool", install an in-dash Cobra WXSTll, mount a Firestikll 2' on driver's side and Crane antennae on right plus free-up 2 scarce switch locations. Style & Function, Incorporated!
Co. says antenna does not boost FM reception, which stays the same as with any antenna, only boosts AM reception. But remember, FM reception is line-of-sight, and almost totally distance limited. AM reception is virtually unlimited (assuming max. station power of 50,000 watts) and responds...
The Crane Co. (ccrane.com),which makes first quality shortwave equipment, top line AM and FM radios, is offering original and replacement auto antennas--non retractable, which the Co. claims "almost doubles your AM reception." The antennas are priced from $34.95 to $48.95. These are coil loaded...
This is a C-Dan mod, which is simple and, therefore, elegant, and increases driver safety, such that it deserves its own thread, IMHO.
To create a dual running light and turn signal from the top front markers, C-Dan says: "I replaced the existing sockets with sockets that fitted 3157 bulbs...
C-Dan,
Would you please elaborate on the mod, particularly with regard to the way it should be wired in order to use the marker light both as a marker and a turn signal light? Very much appreciated, as your mod is quite elegant. Thank you.
Steve
Nakman, et al,
Found it! It's a C-Dan conversion (of course); and quite elegant (naturally). I don't know how to mak e an internal link to it, so here is the thread: "Turn sigs & parking lights". If you put that in the search bar, you'll get the thread. The gist is using sockets that hold...
Nakman,
Thanks, but someone recently (last month or two) posted a much cleaner and easier method with the same result. I think it involved swapping out the sockets on the marker light (dual sockets?) to convert it to an indicator as well as a marker. The Slee method is not attractive (at...
Tucker, Corbs:
Many thanks for your help. Had the mod done today at local Toyota dealer (labor, $84.98/parts, $2.19) and it's terrific, doubley delicious, and safer. ( Now, to find the thread that discussed a better way to modify the the top marker so that it also works as an indicator.) That...
Tucker: Are you positive this works? Have you actually done this? I ask because this is a great mod and I'm going to have this done on Monday. Could you, please be more specific and detailed about the wiring? Thanks vey much for your reply. Steve

At the end of a 4,000 mile trip (in my driveway, in fact) blew an EFI fuse. Cruiser has 68,000 miles on it. Was this a one-off event? A singularity? Could there be an underlying condition responsible? Fuel system related? Electrical system? (At 66,000 miles had extensive mods done, including...
More data: l996, lockers, stock susoension, original owner, factory rack rcently removed, 63,00 miles ,highway, dirt roads, nothing yet. Always parked in heated garage except during excursions. Could temperature changes play an additional role in this? Or just age and use? Will watch and inform you.
Afterthought. When you apply the GOO-GONE with the brush. Let it sit a minute. Then work brush in circular motion. The GOO-GONE will sudenly get very black on the wheel and the brush (dissolved & suspended brake dust). This is good. Remove with paper towel. Clean off brush. Repeat. Results...
Just went through that. Use GOO-GONE, household or auto mix. Apply with small brush, let stay on for several minutes, remove with paper towel. Repeat as necessary for heavy brake dust deposits. Works quite well. With little effirt you can get close to mint condition
I just removed a factory roof rack frpm a '96 LC. Also the rear spoiler. I have all the parts for each. You need only to supply the double face automotive tape to set the rails on and some rubber or neoprene padding for the rack mounting corners (to avoid them cutting into the paint). Send me...
