I just made the swap to an H41 and built an Orion for lower gears, so I'm offering up the original H42 4-speed. $400 OBO — Local pickup only.
First year of the 4-speed. 16-spline output for the one-piece TC. Not sure of mileage, but probably around 125K miles on it. Been in a barn for 20+ years...
Quick advice before I have time to search through the history of 'MUD. Hopped in the 100 to go to work today and the UltraGauge beeped with a notice of a pending P0300 code as I pulled out of the driveway. I parked it and took the 40 to work, but I'm curious about next steps before throwing...
I have two hard tops (mostly) from my 1974 FJ40.
Top One: The remnants of the original '74 top that was hit by a tree many years ago. It was sitting upside-down in a field, exposed to Oregon elements for 20+ years and is in not great shape, but it's the original top, and has the original...
I'm to the wiring up stage of my 8274 rebuild project. I replaced the solenoids with an Albright, but I would like to wire up a power cut-off switch inside the cab. Would a left-over control solenoid be acceptable for wiring up a power cut-off between the battery and winch? Seems like it...
I just purchased two 8274 winches and I need some help matching up bottoms and tops. I have no history on them, other than they both belonged to the same farmer who sold them to the guy I bought them from.
Winch #1:
Date Code: FR4
Ser. #254936
Metal Remote Socket
Round Freespool Handle

I'm looking for a decent deal on a working 8274, preferably one that doesn't need a complete rebuild, but if the price is right, I might be interested in that too. Sick of dealing with the "I know what I've got" crowd on CL and FB trying to sell these for more than they were new in the 80s...
Just thought I'd start a thread for people to start thinking about a new spot for the Christmas Tree Run this year, since it looks like our normal spot burned up pretty good this fall.
Any other solid back-up spots out there?
I'm getting new tires on the 40, so rather than pay for recycling of the old ones, I thought I'd see if anybody needs a set of decent tires.
31x10.50 15 Cooper AT3
Decent tread, probably a bit under half, with even wear.
Free to good home.
Let me know,
Steve
I’m in the middle of swapping out my CV axles with all new OEM parts, but the old CVs I removed look quite a bit different. I’m sure the OEM part is right, but just double checking.
New OEM part I ordered: 43430-60040
Old part has boots marked WHB-293 and WHB-292. Rebooted, at least.
Anybody else seeing vendors with good sales going on during this shutdown? Would be great to highlight them here, now that many of us have time to work on our rigs. And, it'd be great to give the solid 'MUD supporters a shot in the arm as the economy goes into the crapper.

Clips are available somewhere to weld on. Stupid idea? I have the 15” 60 wheels, but mostly interested in the idea to potentially going to 16” wheels. Stupid idea? Discuss.
Well, as I sit here at a standstill due to the wrong parts being shipped and me not noticing, I'll post a few nagging questions up. '74 FJ40 is being updated to FJ60 knuckles, vented rotors, 4Runner calipers, and all new hardware. Going great until I finished with the centering tool and realized...
Swapping to disc brakes on the 40 and I don't have calipers for a core deposit. Anybody have and want to donate or sell me some cheap, trashed calipers for a core deposit? Hoping to get this sorted out before the March 7 club run. Not picky on make/model/year. Most places don't even check what...
Anybody have a blast cabinet I can use? I need to clean up some knuckles and a bunch of assorted small parts for my disc brake swap. Just got a quote for $150 for a one hour minimum at a shop. This will probably take ten minutes. I'm sure I could come up with a bunch of other stuff to clean up...
I've searched and read hundreds of threads, over dozens of hours. Still having trouble getting my head around the 35" tire problem. It seems there is no way to make them work without cutting the rear fenders. Sure, there are the occasional few who say they don't rub with a 4" spring lift, but...
I just saw that Ironman 4x4 is now making their Foam Cell Pro shocks for the 40. I love them on my 100. Anybody tried them on a 40 yet? Reviews on their lift springs are pretty sparse here.
After reading nearly every seatbelt upgrade thread I could find here, I'm trying to install my surplus HUMVEE seatbelts. The discussion somewhere here about the potential safety problems of mounting seatbelts to the seat frame has me looking for alternate spots to mount everything. Ideally, the...
