Thanks for the input fellas.
The diff work would be definitely cheaper than an engine swap, seeing how setting up for this trip will cost me heaps saving the $$$$s is def a consideration.
been hunting round the net trying to find out the likely numbers for my stock diffs, any suggestions ?
Thanks for the comments.
Yep its a 3f with a carb with a 5spd.
Now i use 35 inch tyres when its loaded up with camping gear for the family (5 of us) I'm constantly down shifting on the hills, with the a/c on its a real pain, add lpg to the mix and you can probably see where I'm coming...
My fj62 has 440,000kms on it and I am considering a heart transplant for it, basically for more power. Its a 5 speed that runs on dual fuel, being a carb it has never run well on both.
There doesn't seem like much of power or torque difference on paper so i was wondering if there are other...
This is an 1989 FJ 62.
Yes, the steering wheel is on the wrong side ;) ;)
This truck had extensive rust in the roof, which I have chopped out and welded in new material.

Ok, I know some of you blokes have installed drop shackles, some in SOA and some SUA. Now a bit of time has passed and I was wondering if you enlighten us with your experiences with them off road, especially now that the "novelty" of them may have worn off and that you have gone past the testing...
TopJimmie, sounds like your rust repair was the same as mine.

Most owners wouldn't even know how bad it is coz ya can't see it.
You have got yourself some nasty rust there I reckon, trust me I know, I had it on mine. That rust will be travelling along under the sealant that is in the gutter and in the pinch weld that holds the roof on.
Ya won't see it untill ya start excavating.
Can you install a 350 TBI that will run on lpg and petrol ?
Would it require one of those engine management systems you can adjust in the vehicle (I hope not because the ones I've seen are expensive) ?
Thanks
Are ppl doing it for less unsprung weight ??
Is there really an advantage in doing it for this reason in a landcruiser ??
Or does it aid suspension travel ?
I've looked and asked but haven't been able to find out.
For some reason that I don't even understand myself, I want to paint my 62 in zebra stripes. I think it goes back to my days of watching Daktari on the teev. I want to paint it with white durabak, and then black stripes (rattle can). Its already white so at least the engine bay etc will kinda...
Yeah mate, Tuff Truck was carnage, bits breaking all over the joint. I've been to the nissan trials aswell and Tuff Truck is heaps better in terms of extreme 4wding.
