Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

The photo may not make it clear but the grooved pulley that the belts run on has completely detached and can be moved by hand. It is behind the water pump fan mount. Not sure why. Maybe someone attached it to the back side of pulley water pump instead of between the water pump and the fan...

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

Well, I have beaten the crap out of the clutch with no success. As you can imagine I have beaten it up pretty good. At this point I realize I need to just remove the radiator and replace the clutch and water pump. At the same time I will get the 16.25 inch diameter fan and install the shroud...

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I will keep trying to get the right combination of BFH and leverage. I have hit the "snout" (good description) of the pulley. At this point I am not too concerned about denting the clutch base because it is probably due a replacement. I will keep spraying, heating (with the Bolt Buster), and...

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

When you say at the base of the fan clutch, could you describe where you mean. I have hit every where I can get too with out hitting the actual back of the fan clutch.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I do have a shroud but have never really had a problem with over heating. I have one that I had modified to fit the aluminum radiator but the fan I got was too big for the radiator opening. I have always intended to get the smaller size fan, but never did because over heating has not been a...

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I do not think I could get anything between the radiator and the fan. Even if I did get the nuts off, the fan does not have enough space to come off the clutch without the radiator being removed.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I do not see how I could get a wrench or socket between the radiator and the front of the fan to remove it from the clutch. Even if I could remove the nuts, I do not think I could slide the fan out from between the clutch and the radiator.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

Thank you for your response but I have tried this. I am looking for more specific suggestions.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I am not sure if I understand how you would remove fan from clutch with out removing the assembly from the water pump first. I will look tomorrow and see if I can get to the screws with it still on the front of the motor.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

I need help getting the fan and clutch assembly off of my 1980 FJ40. I know it should be dead simple but it will not budge. I have removed the 4 bolts, sprayed it with Kroil (for two days) and used the BFH as best I can. There are not a lot of options on hitting with a hammer. I have tried to...

Looking for advice on 2F engine rebuild

Thank you for all the input. Thought I would update you guys on my truck. I decided to get the truck to Beau Parker at Safari Classics in Hot Springs based on @70fj40 recommendation. He has had it a few days. I am happy to report that the engine is still good. He pulled the pan and valve cover...

Looking for advice on 2F engine rebuild

Do not expect to get anywhere with Jiffylube. I had the oil changed in Feb. I drove the truck a few times in the Spring (put about 100 miles on it). Did not drive it for the hot months of Summer. Drove it last week and did not notice the gauge until engine started to act up. Why did I not notice...

Looking for advice on 2F engine rebuild

It is the original engine that was rebuilt in 2001 and has about 12000 miles on it from the rebuild. Really hoping for some shop recommendations that are within about 250 miles of Fort Smith or a good off the shelf rebuild from a Land Cruiser shop.

Looking for advice on 2F engine rebuild

I do not think it threw a rod. I did not see any block damage. The 80 has a lot more "stuff" around it than a 72.

Looking for advice on 2F engine rebuild

Last we was a tough week. I inadvertently drove my 1980 FJ40 with no oil and seized the motor. It is a long story as to all the little events that lead to me making such a stupid mistake and trust me, I am very frustrated with myself. I will just say NEVER TRUST Jiffylube with anything. I was...

Is there such a thing as a tool list of most everything needed for a FJ40 rebuild?

I have never done a rebuild but I got a BoltBuster a few years ago. It allows you to heat up bolts and screws with heat induction to break them loose so no flame is needed. It helps when you need to heat a bolt with near by items that are not going to hold up to a torch. I had a long screw that...

Solved: Serpentine Belt Failure after Timing belt and water pump replacement

So I am back on the road. I will admit to my stupidity. The one bolt I did not torque to spec was the one that backed out on me. The crank shaft pulley bolt came loose. This could have been a very bad story, but luck was with me and no damage occurred to the crank shaft. I had used a big impact...

Solved: Serpentine Belt Failure after Timing belt and water pump replacement

I replaced my timing belt and water pump this week. While I was at it I replace the fan bracket, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, alternator, and fan clutch. I used all Toyota parts. Basically I wanted to replace any part that I removed during the service with new Toyota parts as a preventative...

Middle Row Seat Bolt P/N? Anyone?

I did the exact same thing. Did you have to retap the bolt hole on the bracket on the floor of the truck? I think I may have damaged the treads on the bracket.
