Uhmmmm... Unless I'm really, really mistaken, ARB is in Tukwila, which is about 300+miles further west of Spokane...
It is a nice place to visit, however.
Bugger... I thought I posted an update on this thread back in November, when I was overtaken by weather and events... Apparently, my memory of doing this is either FUBAR, or something happened to the post. My apologies to all.
Truck is currently in storage where I can't work on it, so until the...
I'm going to *start* working this dismantle this weekend... Pictures going out to the interested parties, and I'll await replies before moving down the list to the next person who requested that part.
Thanks for the patience, guys--Retirement from the Army was a bit more time-consuming than...
Data point RE: Toyota dealership mechanics...
When I helped out Jerimiaheaster with his birf job, we opened up his axle to find *zero* grease in his birfs. Drivers side was shot, cage broken, general nastiness. Passenger side, not so bad. The axle had had a rebuild job done at a dealership to...
Dan, the '93 is lifted. The '94 looks stock.
My plan for handling the lift-out of the motor is to follow the FSM procedure, and do the entire transmission/motor/transfer case all at once. In order to get the necessary height, I've got a cherry-picker, and I'm planning on dropping the front...
The whole thing ought to be entertaining as hell. I only wish I had videotaped some of the crap my brothers and I have done over the last few years. The clutch in the 1990 truck was pure comedy gold. At the end, we all three agreed that the next time we needed something like that done, we were...
Dave, did you keep the parts ticket from Dan? That might be a clue. I really don't remember a part like that, at all, when I did the two axle jobs I've done so far, this year. I wonder if it got in there by accident?
Dave, the black snap ring in Dan's kit is for when you take the axle out of the Birfield. You usually break those clips when you take that apart. If you didn't, don't worry about it. The aluminum washer, on the other hand... I don't remember getting one of those. Could be a brain fart, though...
Gentlemen (and mechanically masochistic ladies, as well...):
I'm finally beginning the dismantlement of the 1994 FZJ-80 that I bought from Mikesta, back in July. Details of that are to be found in "Parting Out" forum, and I'm not trying to do any of that business in here, at all. However...
Sorry, guys... Life intervened, and plans got shifted. The truck goes into the shop this week, and I'm going to start dissecting her, bit by bit. More to follow.
Miescha, when I did mine, I used the torque value from the FSM, Loc-tite Red, and, so far, zero loosening. The torque value is buried somewhere in the FSM, from what I remember. I want to say 90 ft-lbs, but that's from fallible memory.
Spike, from what I've seen on these, what happens is that the stud is loosened when you dismantle the hub for rebuild, and subsequently, no matter how tight the nuts are, it's going to come undone. If you didn't double-nut, and then torque the stud itself back into the housing when doing the...
EricE--Interesting about the ATK headgasket issue. I don't feel so bad, buying a spare engine to rebuild myself, now. If you want something done right, I guess you have to do it yourself...
I hope that the collective Ih8mud hive mind will be able to conclusively help me diagnose the issue...
EricE--When you tore down the engine, what did the rings look like? Was it just the wiper rings, or did the compression rings sustain damage, as well?
I'm also curious as to what you think caused the issue with the rings. My suspicion is that the previous owner toasted the engine with a failed...
Replace the door switches. All of them. Now. It's not the use of them that causes them to fail, it's the lack of use, and, I suspect, corrosion. My rear passenger door had the worst problem, and I'm pretty sure it sees the least use out of all five doors.
Mine did this until I replaced all of...
Just be grateful that you're not burning a quart every 80-100 miles, like I am.
I can't wait to get the new engine gone over, and into my rig. I feel like I'm the captain of the Exxon Valdez, every time I pull off the highway to put in more oil.
And, blame Woody's nag screen, for why I'm...
Guys, due to time constraints, I'm not going to be taking stuff off of this vehicle until late September. I'll use this thread to give everyone first refusal rights for what they asked for, in the order they posted. If someone doesn't respond within five days (does that seem reasonable, to...
I just bought Mikesta's wrecked 1994 for the drivetrain (will be parting it out over the next six months, or so--see existing thread in "Parting Out"). The engine compartment on this truck is immaculate, and it's not just from someone being very meticulous with maintenance, either. Some clues...
