For Sale 1981 FJ40 For Sale - Parting out my rig

If the package deal does not work out, I might separate the tub and frame, but honestly, for that kind of labor, it would cost more than the two together. ;) Ed

1981 FJ40 front inner axle shafts

Thanks Mark. Yes, I actually hope to make it to KRocks for the 09 event. Surely someone wants these cheap. Make me an offer - I just want to help a fellow wheeler out and make enough for a little beer on the way home from the post office. Ed

    Who owns this rig?

I've seen Omar a few times down here in my neighborhood. A really good looking rig. I need to get mine out more for more than drag racing and burnout contests. Ed

1981 FJ40 front inner axle shafts

Got them with Rascal when I bought it, so I am not sure of their origin. They look clean and straight. I am not familiar with Birfields, but there are 3 spot welds on each axle shaft near the splines (pictured) that I have no idea of their origin or reason. I need them gone and figure...

    Howdy

Personally, I would just get an Atlas and replace the upside down tcase and be done. Go 4.3 or 5:1. No reason for any less in my book. I am fine with my 4.3:1 (but I would have gone lower if I had bought it) - but since you usually only use low range offroad, I would recommend one in one of...

My suggestions.... Borrow my bender and shop and build a cage. Bring the motor over and I will help you fix / rebuild it. Free labor - it might be worth more than you pay for it. We can fix the trans. If it shifts ok - we can throw new seals in it for cheap. Tcase - I would love...

    Heims/Johnny Joint/Bushings for 4 link

I am using the Hyper Joint (a pre-production unit if I am not mistaken) on my rig, and it is a great unit. Have built a couple other customers rigs with them, and they are my link end of choice. I have had NO issues with the 9/16" bolt even with 42" swampers and 350 hp.... Great product...

    Trail-Gear's Hydro Assist...

I usually get my hydraulic parts at www.surpluscenter.com . Might want to scan their stuff to see if there are any bargains. Ed

    lt1 swapped in...not running?

Unless I have forgotten my LT1's, there is no coolant crossover on LT1's in the intake, so you need to find where the leak was before you put it all back together. If it is not a head gasket (why would one of those go at 40k), I am wondering about a cracked or warped head. Ed

    FJ-40 4-link coils

Yup, you need to trim sheet metal. Mine is about as low as you can go on 42's and still have a rear tub with the side metal for the wheel wells fully cut out, and it is still a full 3" taller than I would wish for. Ed
