1st year for the Hilux 4 wheel drive. SWB, 20R motor and 5 speed manual transmission, both professionally rebuilt 20,000 miles ago. New front drive shaft also 20,000 miles ago. This is a factory original 1st year 4 wheel drive Hilux that also came with a factory CB radio, power steering, AM FM...
that would be great if you have the wheels- a matching spare would also be a nice touch! :) Let me know if you find them- I need to get some new rubber before driving it due to the poor condition of the current tires and would prefer to have the new ones mounted directly on the replacement...
I've been quiet for a long time, but I saw this today and had to post it. It's an '82 (Nov 81) with what appears to be 71xxx original miles, factory PS and A/C - unmolested other than a really crappy paint job (it was originally tan and should have been left tan) and missing smog pump, very...
Sorry for the lack of follow up on my part. After lots of frustration, I decided to install a mechanical pump. I initially installed the new, aftermarket electric pump (in- tank replacement), new filter and all new fuel lines, but continued experiencing the same problems; hard starts, runs fine...
UPDATE
I decided I couldn't wait until the weekend to figure this thing out. After several calls to the local parts stores, O'Rielly's found a listing for an electric fuel pump for a 1979 Hilux with 20R. New pump in hand, I dropped the tank (after verifying it was not an electrical problem) and...
The good news here is that I can blow into the tank through the fuel line at the filter so there aren't any blockages. I guess that probably means the fuel could flow the other direction too. I'll try the simplest approach first-install a mechanical pump and see if it draws through the old pump...
Do you think the in-line electric or mechanical pump would draw fuel through the inoperable, in-tank fuel pump? I was thinking that I'd probably have to remove it before the fuel would flow. As for the idea of an aux tank, I'll look closely this weekend to see if it appears do-able. It would be...
Right you are 2nd gen-sorry about that bad description. I've had a 72 chevy pickup with the in-cab fuel tank---what the heck were they thinking??? With all my ramblings, does anyone have a guess as to what application this tank is from? I also have an '81 2wd and it definitely has a mechanical...
I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear in my description; the tank is not in the cab behind the seat, it is under the bed of the truck--just behind the passenger seat (at the very front of the bed). Is this the stock location for the tank? Ah crap--I hadn't thought about the cam drive possibly not being...
