RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

Well, I jiggled that part. I couldn't see it perfectly in the light that I had or the chance to climb in and look squarely at it. It seemed ok. As in, ok means that it was seated and not coming off. So I left it. Did the same things on the property as yesterday (all sorts of turning it off...

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

Oh, that looks like something to look at. Thanks. It stalled a few times yesterday on the property. Truck park at all sorts of angles and dead flat. Just cuts or stumbles - definitely spark/electrical related as opposed to fuel.

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

UPDATE: Well, I ambled down the road to the neighbors a little while ago. It fired up, stalled, fired up, ran for a minute. Hit the FWD button to back out of my icy spot and it died. Hmmm. Fired it up again and it stayed running. Let it warm up and drive it home. If I have time, I'll see if...

I forgot to state that my ALT was replaced a few years ago (chasing another issue) and it's a denso. I'm pretty sure if I put in a new alt, I'd have the same issue, and if I put in the alt I have in storage, that one would test fine as well.

Yes, big ole deep cycle marine battery (auto-zone, not the best, but works great). It's got a bunch of cranks in it. I will jump it off my car anyhow to refresh it. CEL is working. That's the one you say to hook up to the thing near the CSI, right? Gonna have to look at how to make one...

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

Hmm, don't have a known good one. THe fj60 I have has one with different connectors than the FJ62 with the problem. I have a $30 Craftsman multi meter, though I must admit I'm a novice on using it. Seems to me that the ground to the fender for the coil is good. I will double check in the...

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

Ah, now that's a good idea. Didn't get into the air intake due to waining light but tomorrow I'll bring down some CRC MAF cleaner too and check for actuation. We just had 2 days of iced over trees... Funny how I let the truck warm up for 10 minutes, then drive 2 miles, turned off, got food...

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

Yeah, I swapped in an FJ60 coil (see above) and I got better results. All grounds seemed to be good and the rust was not bad on the bolts.

RTH: Died on the road. Cranks, seems to have fuel, Won't start. 3fe '89 FJ62

OK, since I had a spare FJ60 within a mile or two away, I went ahead and swapped just the coil. Since the igniters seemed different. I did get a few stumbles of fire and combustion. Almost felt like it was an old carb'ed flooded vehicle. I was starting to lose juice and didn't want to annoy the...

Oh and it got all new ground wires from the guy who sells the heavy duty kit here. (1.5 yrs ago?)

No, I do not know if I'm getting spark. Kinda tough to do that on my own... Got any ideas on how to test that solo? I can only guess that the air intake is fine. If I get fuel under a lot of pressure at the cold start injector, is it assumed that fuel is getting there? As for things...

I do not know if I'm getting spark. I will check the + & - for fatigue. Cold hands...

Has fuel, verified pressure to the CS injector. Has battery, No codes given while had the jumper on. I was rolling down the road, going about 30mph, saw the RPM needle drop and go back to normal, then drop. Tossed in in N and coasted to a neighbors. Went and got a few gallons of gas as my...

new winch drops my voltage meter to 8??

I have a 1.5 yr old Denso (OEM) alt in my 62, a Warn 9000 winch, ALL new battery grounds (and good connex) and a duralast 950 CCA batt - biggest they had. The Batt is a little too big but I got it to fit. Pulls like a champ though for long pulls I tend to keep the engine running for good...

power steering to upgrade or not?

Im waiting for another mud member to post pics of his fj62 setup with a Saginaw/Volvo pump. In the meantime I'm having good luck so far with Lucas power steering fix fluid. Can't say my issue is better but I'm hoping it helps. My trick sits for a week or two and is then empty. In the past I...
