    Sheared AC Idler adjuster

OK, I'm in big trouble. Tried to replace my 89 FJ62 belts this weekend. Found out that all of my tensioners/adjusters were locked up, but managed to work the alternator free, and also the fan/PS/smog pump adjuster. However, the adjuster bolt for the ac idler sheared off. Any ideas on how to...

    Have I gone completely MAD!

I have always thought that the hardest part of rebuilding an engine is having the courage (insanity?) to start the job. Once you are in there, it is much easier than you would think. I agree that a good machine shop is vital, but time and patience (and time) are the hardest pieces to assemble.

Do you guys really Daily Drive these rigs?!

I dd my 62 3 days a week. Take long road trips in my car. Would drive the cruiser every day if I could afford the gas. Aside from the seat killing my back, I love the sloppy steering, the wallowing around corners, and the fact I am never, ever going to beat anyone off the line (including...

Just picked up a new 84' and have a question

Excuse me for the newbie question, but why is the clutch on a cruiser such a huge deal? I don't think I've ever owned a car or truck where I haven't changed the clutch, and while it is not my favorite job, I've never found it to be the worst, either. If this is a REALLY stupid question, feel...

    gas mileage for a 60/62??

On my 88 FJ62 w/ 31" tires and roof rack, I get 10. 10 city, 10 highway, 10 wheelin. When I purchased it and brought it to FL from VA, it started at 10, but by my last fill up, was getting 14. I guess the 12 hours of running boosted the efficiency. Fastest I can push it is around 70, unless...

    Roof Rack Power?

I have been thinking of the exact same thing, a removable bar with the lights mounted. This would allow me to unmount my 3/4 rack if I decide to, and also solve my problem with the lights being too far back if I leave it on. I had the idea I could leave a fixed wire with a marine type...

    Power Antenna wiring 101 on a FJ62

Funny this post came up. Was wheelin this past weekend, and now my antenna is positioned with a stylish 80* backwards rake. Guess the 10" of extension really cost me. Was thinking of ordering a replacement mast, but now you've got me wondering. How hard would it be to substitute the...

    Change my IPF for Hella?

Hello, all. Got a set of Hella 1000s for Xmas, and now I have to decide where to mount them. The PO had some really nice IPF fogs professionally installed on the ARB bullbar, which I like but the yellow is just not bright enough for my tastes (or driving style). Wondering if I should just...

    cb antenna

I've got a 48" firestick mounted on the front of my ARB, passenger side. Little handheld Cobra unit, not sure of the model. It does have the little box wired in under the dash. Although the PO claims to have had it tuned, my reception is horrible. About 1/2 mile on the interstate...

Odd question I've never thought to ask before

Don't know about cruisers, by my old series rover had a hand crank fitting. It was actually the flywheel bolt which was designed so once the engine fired, the handcrank would slip off before the handle broke your arm (or leg - always kicked them) on the next rotaton. I used the heck out of it -...

    Another 33" tire question

So, my buddy found me a set of 31x12.50s, some type of offroad tread, used, for $250. 1@100% tread, 2@90%, and 2@50%. Not what I wanted, but I figure after I have them mounted and balanced, I'm in for abut $300 - significantly less than I thought I was going to pay (locker, here I come!!!)...

    Lights and internet suppliers

My best friend has 2 Hella 500s on his Rangie, and I know he is very happy with them, but Mike, have you had any problems with the 130 watt bulbs? As I recall, his out-of-the-box 500s get really, really hot, I can't believe going to 130w wouldn't melt something! Also, will the switch and relay...

    Another 33" tire question

Thanks for all the responses! Don't really want to spend the $$ for rims right now (saving my lunch money for a rear locker), so stock rims are going to be it for a while. I know lots of people run the BFG ATs, but since I will mostly be in sand and muck, I was thinking an MT would be a better...

    Another 33" tire question

I have an '89 FJ62 with stock gears and a 3" lift, running 31x10.50 BFG ATs. Need new tires badly, and have been following the posts on tire sizes with interest. Have decided I really want to go with 33" MTRs, and since I live in Florida with a lot of mud and sand, thought I would go with a...

Follow up on gear oil thread

The PO extended the breathers up to the top of the wheel well, but after doing a search on this site, looks like moving them all up to the engine compartment is well worth the effort. He left spring loaded valves on, so I'm going to check tonight to see if they are plugged. As you can tell...

Follow up on gear oil thread

Something I read in the gear oil thread got me to thinking. The general discussion was, if one wheels in water frequently, use cheap hypoid, since it has to be changed every time. This led me to start thinking, why do the differentials let water in? I can understand individual trucks having...

    60 v 62 v 80

Two cents from a newbie. I stole my 62 from my brother-in-law, who "moved up" to a 93 FZJ80. He made the jump as the price on the 80 was just too good for him to pass up, and it included just about every upgrade/modification available. In the conversations we have had since, I get the...

    Florida Cruisers...

I'm up in TallyTown, and my ride is gold. I have the same situation: almost every morning I see a gold 60 pass me going the other way. I always wave, and never a response.....

Thoughts and suggestions needed on possible purchase...

Out of a misguided sense of loyalty to my previous truck, I must protest. Granted, I just got the cruiser a few weeks ago, but I absolutely loved my series rover. My best buddie drvies a rangie, and its a pretty nice ride also. Granted, they have lots of mechanical issues. But, if you've got...

    boogered diff fill plug

Thanks for all the posts. Here's what I ended up with: ordered a used back cover plate for $30. Going to just change them out, which will leave me with a spare. Since I don't weld (yet - owning a cruiser might change that) my friend offered to take it home for Thanksgiving and weld a nut on...
